Alien DVD question
Having purchased the Alien Quadrilogy (that's not a word, FOX marketing department), I have notice from my reading that I seem to be missing out on one extra in an otherwise perfect set: the Ridley Scott solo commentary and the music-only track for the first DVD of the first film. How this rather egregious oversight came about I'm not certain (Simple lack of space?), but I was wondering if the original DVD with said features was still available and fora reasonably price, or if I was going to have to go hunting on eBay (Say, was anything else left off?). Thanks to any responses ;)!

Re: Alien DVD question
It's still available. I still have to pick it up as well, I've seen it on sale for $5 frequently, especially around halloween. And with a cool lenticular slipcover. Fry's always has it on the floor, Target sometimes...

Re: Alien DVD question
I have it and highly recommend it. Even though I also have the Quadrilogy, I kept the original release just for those extras (I especially like the alternate soundtrack with different music throughout the movie).

Re: Alien DVD question
I have both as well for this reason. Its well worth $5 for the solo commentary and the isolated score, imo. The mail away disc from the old Legacy Set also seems to have content that is not included in the quadrilogy set.

Re: Alien DVD question
For fans of the music... Check out Intrada's recent 2CD release of the complete score (including the alternate stuff and more):

Re: Alien DVD question
Now, it is this one which contains those features, correct? Not this one?

This is also not included in the set, as it's by another company. http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listi...&condition=all There are exactly 2 listings on here, both at $79.98, for the box set w/the 5th disc. |
Re: Alien DVD question
What does the extra Legacy disc contain? On a tangential note, does it contain the disc with the score and Scott commentary?
EDIT: Can you even still mail-in for it? What DID it contain? |

Re: Alien DVD question
there is a 3 pack movie with alien, invasion of the body snatchers (1978) and lifeforce. the version of alien is the 20th anniversary edition with the first commentary track. I own it.
I found it for 14 bucks at fry's. you might be able to find it cheaper now. Jacob |

That's what I figured. So even if I got the Legacy set, I wouldn't be able to get the extra disc anyway. Well, the original ALIEN disc and ALIEN SAGA are at least pretty inexpensive.

Re: Alien DVD question
A little off topic, saw this in front of some store yesterday.

A couple posts up I posted a link to two Amazon Marketplace sellers who were selling the box, with the disc already mailed in for and included inside, that were $80. In my looking after I first saw this thread, that was the only place I found any of those discs being sold.

I have the old VHS set too; I believe the fifth tape has the same content as the bonus Legacy set DVD (65-minute doc, containing probably nothing novel when compared to the Quadrilogy docs). I've been meaning to burn it onto DVD one of these days. I have the Alien Saga DVD too.
Still, at least I can get the disc with the Scott commentary cheap. I'd be willing to pay 30 or so for the 5th if it showed up on eBay, but Obviously, I would never show up by itself.... I'm also a completist when it comes to Alien (although I have no interest in the AVP movies). |

I thought that AVP was watchable, if utterly inoffensive and unremarkable. I do not, however, know if I could justify to myself spending money on AVP Rectum. Where's the blind devotion? Since the AVPs can be had easily for 5 bucks, any self-respecting Alien fan has no excuse (not even realizing that they are shitty movies that damage the franchise) for not having them in the collection!!!!111 ;):) |
Re: Alien DVD question
I respect myself more than that to actually own the AvP movies. It is bad enough that I admit to watching them.
Can't wait on the Blu's... |
Re: Alien DVD question
I probably shouldn't admit that I have an extra or two of that 5th disc.
But don't ask. I've retired all of my exclusives to storage, they are unorganized, it would take at least 10 hours for me to find it. On the AvP films, I find them tolerable mindless films, I just think of them as generic monsters and not "real" Aliens and Predators. |
Re: Alien DVD question
I'll admit to liking the AVP flicks. Of course they're no where in the leagues of the mighty Alien and Aliens (but neither is 3 and 4) but they're still trashy -- make that very trashy -- fun.

Ah, I just don't know if I can justify spending 80 bucks on films that I already have for one measly documentary. I'd love nothing better than that disc, but I don't know I can spend the cash.
I believe Aliens has a featurette not included on the Quadrilogy, and so does Alien3. |
Re: Alien DVD question
I remember seeing the first one when I was a kid but sadly, since I have not seen it since I was a kid, I don't really remember much of it, never seen parts 2 or 3, how are the sequels? I would like to revisit it again and see if I can remember some scenes from the first movie

I sent you a PM regarding the Alien Legacy disc. I have one for sale if you are interested. Mark |

True, but you say you're willing to spend $30 on the disc and the Alien DVD that's in the set with the Scott commentary and score is another $10, so that's only $40 extra dollars! ;)
I believe Aliens has a featurette not included on the Quadrilogy, and so does Alien3. This little obsession of mine has suddenly become very expensive :)! |
