Moral dilemma - "Slumdog Millionaire" replacement - help??
Okay - as you can see, I am living in Japan. I ordered and received the Slumdog Millionaire DVD from Amazon.com. Of course it was defective. I filled out the web form at Fox for replacement and (of course) they only ship to the USA and Canada. I had it sent to a friend's address in the USA and he forwarded it to me. The envelope has the return envelope inside of it, along with the replacement DVD of Slumdog.
So, the question: I have already paid my friend $2.00 for postage to forward the replacement disc to me and I will have to pay more for returning the defective DVD to Fox. There is no way to identify who the returned DVD comes from, so why bother to spend even more money??? Would YOU return it?

I live in Japan and I lucked out with getting a fine disc. CONTACT AMAZON FIRST! They already know the problem exists, and they told me that they would replace it with no additional cost if you told them directly. Don't go through FOX if you're an international customer!

manic sounds: Seeing as the case clearly says "For distribution only in the United States, its possessions and Canada" I assume that Amazon is being nice about it and eating the costs it takes to ship out replacement discs. Therefore I didn't want to cost them any extra money.
Kory: That is VERY LOGICAL reasoning. Thanks, dilemma solved!

Re: Moral dilemma - "Slumdog Millionaire" replacement - help??
Yeah, thanks guys! I just threw the defective disc in the closet along with all of the other defective DVDs I have for some reason been saving. Which brings up another point - I am getting to have quite a pile of defective DVDs in the closet - when I get a defective DVD or set here in Japan, Amazon doesn't require me to send the defective one back to them, they just send me a new one. Some of these are box sets with just 1 defective DVD in the set. Any suggestions on what to do with these??? What do you do with them? For example - at one time I bought "Friends - Seasons 1 - 4" at one time. One disc in 1 set was defective and Amazon replaced the entire 4 Seasons!!! I feel dishonest trying to sell them on a used DVD site!

If they tell you to keep them I think you can do what you want with them. I'd trade them, pass them along to a friend, or keep them incase you have one that messes up on you. As for Slumdog Millionaire, give it to a friend that hasn't seen it.

Amazon told you to keep them, so they are yours. Keep them for backups, or pass them on to friends. In the case of slumdog, if you have someone you really hate, you could pass it on to that person. As the disc will play fine, it is just missing some "extras".
