what is with these great movies, Oscar worthy and all getting such sparse extras?

"BD Exclusive: The Eastwood Way – Exploring the actor/director’s filmmaking process up close (HD)"

This inclusion means I wont be buying any release of this one until I find it used at the used DVD store for less than $5. SOrry, me no likey Blu-exclusives. Sorry WB you can now deduct a score of 1 from potential buyers of the DVD version.

First day purchase. Second favorite film of last year next to The Dark Knight.

Have fun NOT buying movies from every studio in town. Almost every Blu-Ray these days has Picture-in-Picture, which rules out the majority of releases right there.

I dont care about the PIP function. I would never watch a film like that anyways.

Oh, and back cover art is available here:

You'd never watch a film "like that"? PiP is like video commentary. That's like saying you'd never watch a film with an audio commentary turned on. In any case, the point I was making is that PiP is a Blu-Ray exclusive feature, and it's on a considerable amount of discs that come out these days. Not picking up a disc over BD-exclusive features means you really won't be picking up any DVDs.

I think he means he won't support DVDs that omit features that they are capable of including, and I feel the same way. If DVD technology allows you to include a feature, then include it. Don't screw me out of a featurette just because I haven't upgraded to Blu-Ray. I am aware I'm going to miss out on some of the additional Blu-Ray features that DVD just isn't capable of, and that's fine. Just don't screw me over for no reason.

I understand his reasoning, but he's going about it kind of a dumb way. Lowering sales of SD-DVD is literally sending the opposite message he wants to send, and no matter what anyone does, the studios aren't going to stop including exclusive features.

Wow, I had read a 4/21 release at a lot of places :( Regardless, this will be an instant BD purchase.

Definite buy. The one movie that was truly snubbed this year at the oscars was Gran Torino.

Re: Gran Torino---June 9th, 2009

for the love of god this is the most successful Clint Eastwood ever made and it gets a lame ass DVD release.his other overrated crap like Million Dollar Baby and Mystic River gets 3 disc sets.argh.and can we stop all these Blu-Ray exclusives now?!

and lose that Widescreen Edition tag it's so 2002.

Re: Gran Torino---June 9th, 2009

yeah thats quite disappointing, that there is no special edition!
as much as i liked the movie i will wait for the 10 dollar price drop.
not going to pay 20 on release day for a plain amaray version.

Getting the bluray on day one, such a great movie, I don't really care as much about the extras, because most recent Clint Eastwood movies haven't had a whole lot of extras.

For what it's worth, the third disc of both of those, if I remember correctly, was the CD soundtrack. I don't think either of them were exactly extras-packed either, maybe one more featurette than this has, but not much.

I agree with this, I'm sick of this crap also....

Amazon doesn't have it up yet. I'm not all that pissed about the exclusive content for Blu-Ray, doesn't seem all that special. THOUGH it does make me worry about how good the DVD's 2 features are and also what the length on them is.

No boycott for me. Just give me the movie in it's best possible A/V presentation and I'm a happy camper, especially when it's as good as this was.

The Charlie Rose show interviews is what I forgot about. Those obviously dramatically improve the DVD's value.

Will get this at somepoint. Loved the movie, but $20 for the dvd is steep when its an underwhelming release.

I love the Pan's Labyrinth 2 Disc DVD, the Rose interview with Del Toro, Inarritu, and Cuaron totally makes it worth getting.
