a disturbing trend -- comparing DVD prices in US and overseas

the latest trend I am starting to notice from the video studios is, rather than see collectors search to buy thier dvds from countries with a weeker dollar than the united states, like for instance canada, they are now releasing new release dvds at a higher list price in canada than in the united states to compensate.
this is the latest I have noticed in a trend that has been going on for several years now, which is to give the end consumer less and less content for higher dollars. I really feel they are only hurting themselves in the long run doing the same thing that killed the cd music business back when they tried to start charging the consumer close to $20 us for a music cd and chased off the very customers that kept them in business.
who else beside me feels that the major studios have been getting quite piggish and giving us less and less for our dollars.

They have seem to been giving crazy MSRP's for Canadian releases, but that's partly due to the U.S. dollar being so high once again, where as our dollar was almost at par a year or two ago.

$49.99 US MSRP and $89.99 CAD MSRP for a boxset though is pretty crazy. While the CAD was going downhill, it was still cheaper for me to order from Amazon.com for many items, but now it costs more due to the crazy exchange =(

there are other issues as well, full price for half seasons, double and even triple dips. why cant they just put out the best possible product they can, at a value price, one time, and I am sure others like me will keep coming back for more. maybe they wouldnt be stuck with mounds of product that they have to liquidate to chains like big lots.

i concur.

but just for the sake of argument (and just before this gets closed)... coming back for more what? if you have a product that is the best at a value price, what would you need more of?

I realize it is still only March, but this gets my nod for "best Bargain thread of 2009" .....

Another disturbing trend: the price of bananas has been creeping up.

Yep. I noticed that too. Since I've never ordered a movie from Canada, I can't comment on this trend.

The problem was that you did it in the Bargains forum instead of the DVD one and put a a vague title. Then you were not either eloquent or used proper grammar to discuss your opinion. Next time fix those issues and people will take you seriously.
