Sold. The 2-disk sounds good. Look forward to hearing both commentary tracks.

I'm getting this one also.
I'm intrested in the historical special features.
We need more WWII movies, like the old days.

I saw this in theaters, but wasn't expecting much. Boy, was I wrong. Thought it was a very compelling movie and thought Cruise was awesome in the role. Makes the movie well worth the wait and I look forward to revisiting it on DVD.

Why getting the 2-Disc when the 1-DiscŽer has the same Extras as the 2-Disc?

According to the OP, the 1-disc does not have any extras.

That doesn't make sense. That means MGM/Fox is going to make 1 single disc with the extras and 1 single disc without.

that's what everyone seems to be doing lately. the 2 disc has extras on the first disc but the single disc is not the same and is barebones. is one of the most idiotic ideas ever. why manufacture 3 different disc.

Yes, it's extra cost for them, which is strange since studios want to get by as cheaply as possible.

Fox did that before with Hitman and a couple other titles (can't recall which right now).

Also, the reason they're doing 3 different discs is because they know people will not spend the extra $6-7 for a digital copy...

I wanted to see this but never got around to it. I'll grab the BD.

This marketing scheme is shit for the birds. I am not paying for digital coasters and I sure as hell don't want barebones dvds. Boycott releases like this if you want them to change.

Id rather boycott DVD's like the Wrestler and Miracle at St. Anna that are movies I love but have little to no special features.
It shitty what they are doing bu making me pay more for special features but its nothing new and at least we get a release with two commentary tracks which i dont mind paying for.

So your priority list would be:

1. Features
2. Movie

correct?

If I'M going to pay money and own a title on DVD then yes that would generally be the order.

I bought the DVD and just finished watching the movie this morning. I thought it was great. I know this is historically based but it's refreshing to watch a movie where the main character doesn't win. A lot of hollywood movies have the main character diving through a hail of bullets shooting down 10-20 adversaries while they can't hit the side of a barn with a machine gun. It's just refershing that a movie shows a bit of realism and not the typical hollywood bs.
This is what I was thinking as they were lining up the accused on the firing line to be executed.

Ouch. I clicked on this DVD thread and was instead greeted with a major spoiler about the movie. Thanks

Movie was so so. Good Netflix rental (i.e. to be watch once), not worth taking up shelf space.

Re: Valkyrie -- 5/19/09

Watched it last night (1st time) and really enjoyed it. I thought Cruise did a very good job, and the sets and backdrops looked authentic. I'm sure I will re-watch it at some point too. Recommended! Only disappointment (my fault) was that I bought the single disc version at Costco which has NADA in terms of extras (no trailer even). I may end up returning and ordering the 2-disc.

http://www.stern.de/politik/historie...d=526246&cp=12

Here's a link to a picture of the real Stauffenberg taken on 7/15/44, just 5 days before the actual attack, with Hitler. The caption reads: "Wolf's Lair", 15 July 1944 - For the third time within a few days, the young Count Stauffenberg to talk to Hitler, stands upright on arrival. For the third time he has explosives in his briefcase. He does not ignite the bomb.

Also, it's been reported that one of the things that attracted Cruise to the project was his likeness to the film's subject. See for yourself.

[QUOTE=Jack Straw;9463513]I may end up returning and ordering the 2-disc.

I think that would be a good idea if you go through with it.
I enjoyed the extras, although there are only two of them in the two-disc set.
The Valkyrie documentary was intresting and would be worth the switch I think. I was going to get the 1- disc at first because it was a bit cheaper, but i'm glad I paid a little bit extra just for the documentary.

Re: Valkyrie -- 5/19/09

I need someone to help me out.

Does the 1-Disc DVD feature the following:
Audio commentary by actor Tom Cruise, director Bryan Singer and co-writer Christopher McQuarrie
Audio commentary by co-writers Christopher McQuarrie and Nathan Alexander Extras:
"The Valkyrie Legacy" documentary (42min)
"The Journey To Valkyrie" featurette (16min)

According to bot DVDTimes & DVDActive it doesnŽt, but DVDcompare says it does.

Is there two different pressing of Disc-1...?

IŽm confused.

BuddhaWake 11-12-09 11:52 AM

Re: Valkyrie -- 5/19/09

is probably disc 1 of the 2 disc version, not disc 1 of the 1 disc version.

flixtime 11-12-09 12:00 PM

Dane, what BuddhaWake wrote is correct. If you buy the 2-disc DVD, then disc 1 has the extras, with disc 2 being the digital copy. If you buy the 1-disc DVD release then you get no extras. For stuff like this, having a look at the item listing at DVDEmpire comes in very handy. If you take a look at their listing for both the 1-disc and 2-disc DVD releases it will reflect what BuddhaWake mentioned.

Dane 11-12-09 12:19 PM

Re: Valkyrie -- 5/19/09

Thanks.

So, there is two different pressing of the 1st disc.

1-Disc version: No extras

2-Disc version: Extras on disc 1 , and Digital Copy on disc 2.

Well, that is just lame. Anyhow, thanks again.

flixtime 11-12-09 12:35 PM

Correct on both counts Dane, "yes" there are two different pressings, and "yes" it is most definitely lame. Unfortunately, this sort of thing is now more the rule than the exception in the U.S. when you look at films released as both 1- and 2-disc (with digital copy) DVD sets...disc 1 is often not the same...barebones in the 1-disc release, but with added extras on disc 1 in the 2-disc release.

Speaking on behalf of both myself and BuddhaWake...glad to be of service to a fellow brother from the International forum...just let us know anytime you need help...like maybe with "hot" Asian cinema recommendations and such...or maybe not. :o

BuddhaWake 11-12-09 01:17 PM

Re: Valkyrie -- 5/19/09

it is in fact lame. it makes no sense to make 3 discs when the 1 disc with extras can just be put by itself in a case. is all a scam. but yeah, try to look for the 2 disc. this btw, is mostly true off all new releases that are 1 or 2 disc/w digital copy.

LOL at the asian movie recommendation.
