Anyone familiar with Stargate collection Asian knock off?
Hi
I buy a lot of used DVD's at a flea market, the guy has given me good deals and if something skips and I return it 2 months later he will replace it right away.
I went today and he had the complete Stargate SG-1 collection in a box set, it is sealed and he told me it is an Asian knock off.
I went "huh"?
He said it's the same as the US version it will run the same and language is in English but it's made in Asia. I told him I would look into it but he wants only $80 for it, he only has one.
I searched some auction sites and indeed I found some for sale to my surprise (Not Ebay.)
What shall I do? Get it or shell $50 more for the US version? Are these legal? How is the quality?
Thanks for cluing me in.
Patrick

It's a bootleg and not legal. The complete series goes on sale for $99 every once in a while at Amazon, but is plagued with scratched discs, so I would wait for that or just buy legit and pay a little extra now.
R2 just got a new complete series I believe, with the movies, so it might be worth waiting for a version of that over here.

It's probably a bootleg from China or Hong Kong. I purchased a Cold Case Season 1-4 box set from Hong Kong, when I went on vacation there for around $20 and it had artwork on the discs and box. The episodes are just recorded off the TV with the commecials cut out. Some of these bootlegs do make a decent effort with the box artwork and disc artwork.
I say wait for a legit copy to go on sale on Amazon or Deep Discount. At least you will be getting the extras as well.

Hi
You mean the complete US legal version goes on sale for $99 on Amazon or The Asian one? Scratched discs?
Thanks to both of you for the detailed answers.

Yeah, the US legal version has gone on sale for that cheap a few times, IIRC the last time was in December. Of course, that doesn't mean it ever will again. The way the discs are housed in cardboard sleeves, a lot of people reported that they came scratched, you can get replacements, but it's a pain.

By scratched discs, he means discs falling out of the sleeves in the box and getting scratched. (The packaging inside the box isn't amazing, but the outside is really nice)
My copy was from the first batch out, and luckily it arrived with none of the DVD's loose and not one scratch, so it's YMMV really.

I always have lots of dilemmas in my life about everything so why not about which set of Stargate to buy? ;-)
Thanks

Man there is my name on one these sets for $99, $20 more than for the Asian copy I saw today, it's a no brainer. Is it on Amazon? Is there a way to get an email from Amazon when a product goes below a certain price?
I am mostly a half.com user and they send emails about your wish list every so often.
I was just on Amazon and put the set in my wishlist but I can't find a way to get emailed about it.
I also went to deepdiscount and I couldn't turn the boxset in a search.
Thanks
