I'm still waiting for the rest of "Mad About You" to be released. That was a huge Thursday night show for NBC, with Friends, Seinfeld and ER. I can't believe it is still not available in its entirety.

Wonder years without a doubt. I vaguely remembered this show, but a good (girl) friend of mine loved it. She talked me into watching it, and i actually watched the entire series online. One of the best shows i've seen, and very addicting. She actually bought a bootleg version of this for cheap (i think around 15-20 bucks). I'll have to see if she'll let me burn it.

I despise country music, but I love seeing beautiful women with 80's hair & tight jeans so my choice is-

Re: Most successful tv show to be shunned on DVD?

I was always a fan of St. Elsewhere. I remember reading some time back that the sales for the first season weren't very good so it was unlikely we were going to see any other seasons in the near term.

I will have to toss another vote out for the Wonder Years. The musical rights issue has always been the rumor on that one, and I'm not holding my breath ...

If you can play PAL DVD's, you can get the UK releases of season 1-4 on Amazon.co.uk. They're released by Warner.

I've always wondered why they haven't released 'Two Guys, A Girl, & A Pizza Place' on DVD. You'd think with Ryan Reynolds popularity, they would have by now.

Not necessarily a "most successful" show, but I've always wanted 'Judging Amy' on DVD. Badly treated show.

FM surprises me; I could have sworn that WB was planning on releasing Season 1 along with Perfect Strangers. We got PS, but no FM...
Speaking of Perfect Strangers, where the hell is Season 3 for God's Sake.

It baffles me that WHV has NOT release their most popular Western TV Series on DVD in season sets, MAVERICK.
Heck at this point, I'll just settle for all the James Garner episodes.

I am still pissed that we will never get the last two seasons of Taxi.

That is the reason I stopped buying TV shows on DVD.

Now that Mary Tyler Moore is going to finish, that is my #1 want of a stalled series. At least season four which has the best episode ever, "Jim The Psychic."

Not hugely successful, but I would give anything to see 'Homefront' on DVD.

Re: Most successful tv show to be shunned on DVD?

I have to agree with alot of the posts here...Batman (Adam West) and the Wonder years. As far as issues are concerned in regards to music on certain shows it really makes no sense to me. These shows promote these great songs and artists. Its not unusual for me when I hear a great song on a show, even on a commercial, that I love, I will go on itunes and buy it. A great show like Wonder Years will only promote these great songs that alot of people havent heard in a long time. A way to deal with this issue is to have people with rights to the show to allow buyers of the dvd a chance to buy a cd or itunes at a discount.

Don't know about ratings, but The Drew Carey Show only has one season out.

Re: Most successful tv show to be shunned on DVD?

While not the "most successful," it certainly wasn't unsuccessful (and reading through the unsuccessful TV shows shunned on DVD thread made me think of this one...)

The Days and Nights of Molly Dodd
.

It had a BritCom sensibility to it, which really impressed me when it first came out. I'd love to revisit the show on DVD.

Spenser: For Hire. All they've put out are the after-series TV movies.

This is an excerpt from the webpage below:
"One of the tragedies of ridiculous music licensing practices has been that TV shows that involved great music can no longer be seen -- because when they were first aired, there was no aftermarket, and so no rights were cleared with the music owners. Clearing all that music for a DVD release is apparently too difficult, leading to an overall loss to society and culture."
And this is the primary reason that I have little problem with obtaining music illegally.

Agreed. Also, Nathan Fillion isn't exactly a nobody either. I'd buy the set.

Yeah, that makes me mad because the show in it's prime (say 4th - 5th season) is some of the funniest stuff I've ever seen.

The first season was okay, but not classic. The "5 O'Clock World" era was good, and the first couple years of "Cleveland Rocks" (until they introduced clips in to the opening montage). A shame.
