I got it at Best Buy for $9.99. I only saw about 5 copies and they were with the Star Trek display stand. It comes with a lenticular slipcover.

Re: Galaxy Quest - Deluxe Edition >> May 10th 2009

i remember on the old DVD there was one feature that i remembered liking a lot. it had to do with the Omega 13 thing. it was an option on the DVD that did something or showed you something (don't remember exactly, but i liked it).

is that on this new release?

Nope. It's actually mentioned in the DVDTalk review that it's not included.

Spoiler:
After you watched the movie, it was activated, and when you clicked it, it rewound either the menus, or the end of the movie. I can't remember for certain which.

yeah...that was fun. too bad it wasn't included, but sounds like a nice package nonetheless.

I could not find this at any of the stores I went to (Wal-Mart, Meijer, Sams, Target) so I had to order it online.

Re: Galaxy Quest - Deluxe Edition >> May 10th 2009

the docs., while short, were surprisingly fun and informative.
Spoiler:
Rickman was supposed to be the villian!
surprised that they had all recent interviews with all the principles (Allen, Weaver, Rickman, Long, Rockwell, Shalhoub, Mitchell, Colantoni, even Missi Pyle). a little repetitive, but you could tell the love they all had for the movie. very fun interviews.

sorry, but when it comes to fun, short little featurettes with the major cast and then some i like. also, silly was the Sigorney raps featurette. has her, Sam Rockwell, and Daryl Mitchell rapping. short, but funny.

Mid-late September now. The Digital Bits is claiming September 22nd which is what I've heard before. That's when the new Trek 2009 film is suppose to hit Blu-ray as well.

Thankfully, the Blu-ray cover is a little better than that of the DVD. The look on Tim Allen's face is more in line with his character.

Re: Galaxy Quest - Deluxe Edition >> May 10th 2009

I've been debating buying Galaxy Quest on DVD, but I'm bothered by the lack of overlap in features between editions. I'm finding it difficult to choose between them. (I don't mind buying used, so the original edition being OOP doesn't matter.) Maybe they'll eventually come out with an 'all of the above' edition? Or maybe I'll just end up buying both (or continue having neither).

For reference:

Overlap between the original edition and the deluxe edition:
- 7 deleted scenes
- Theatrical trailer
- Thermian audio track

Things the deluxe has that the original doesn't:
- an 8th deleted scene ("an 11-second 'director's cut' of the Rock Monster's final moments that simply adds a subtitled comment")
- a 53-second intro explaining the Rock Monster deleted scene
- a 54-second intro discussing the living quarters tour deleted scene
- "Sigourney Weaver Raps" featurette (1:59)
- "Historical Documents: The Story of Galaxy Quest" featurette (18:12)
- "Never Give Up, Never Surrender: The Intrepid Crew of the NSEA Protector" featurette (23:23)
- "By Grabthar's Hammer, What Amazing Effects" featurette (7:00)
- "Alien School: Creating the Thermian Race" featurette (5:20)
- "Actors in Space" featurette (6:10)

Things the original has that the deluxe doesn't:
- menus designed as an "animated three-dimensional rendering of the ship"
(vs "boring static menus whose only sign of life is the looped theme music on the main screen" in the deluxe)
- "On Location In Space" featurette (10:07)
- production notes (12 pages)
- biographies/filmographies of 12 cast and 6 crew members (69 total pages)
- ten short hidden cast/crew interview videos (in the bio pages)
- Omega 13 'spoiler-proof' hidden feature
- option of purchasing a DTS version

Things neither of them has that they should:
- "the faux '20th Anniversary' special that E! aired"
- audio commentary
- an 'uncut' viewing option
- original aspect ratios changes viewing option

I like the hour of new featurettes, but I'm dismayed by the menu downgrade and loss of earlier features, not to mention what didn't make it into either edition. Sigh...

One of my hang ups. Hundreds of DVD releases drop special features from earlier releases (not to mention almost every BD release dropping something as well). See my sig for one of my projects here.

Ah yes, http://forum.dvdtalk.com/dvd-talk/49...ried-over.html , I have looked at that list before... very handy, good work , but doesn't currently go into detail on Galaxy Quest's lost features. The full comparison I posted here would be out of that thread's scope, but feel free to copy-and-paste the "Things the original has that the deluxe doesn't" section into your post if you'd like.

Thanks. Yep, I can't do it all myself, need people like you to mention what they find so I can keep it close to updated, although I know I'm missing hundreds of titles.

Eh, the lenticularness just cancels out the subpar cover art they used.
