well...don't rent this at your local Blockbuster!

despite it saying "Killer Cut" and 106 minutes on case, the disc is in fact the theatrical 96 minute edition. i didn't even think they would have the extended so i was surprised when i saw it, of course i rented it and sure enough.

the sons-o-bitches! -smile- oh well.

The Killer Cut is at red box....
I was a little disappointed in it, not that much was added to it....

I just got back from the store and I got the unrated DVD. I just read the previous posts. I'm a bit disappointed. I'll probably wait till tomorrow morning to watch the DVD because I have the morning off from work.

T,
could you elaborate as to exactly what is added, perhaps in spoilers? i really wanted to see this cut, but don't want to pay for it, so perhaps i will just watch the rated and be done with it. thanks in advance.

Spoiler:

- More extended sex between Trent and Bree
- A few of the kills are more drawn out and gorier (mainly Trent and Chewie)
- Whitney escaping
- Jason sharpening his machete
- More younger Jason during the mother's death
- More scenery shots of the aftermath
- Dead bodies (chelsea and lawrence)

Well it does make the film a little better IMO. One of the alternate deaths is in the deleted scenes & it's much better than the one that made it into the film.

I didn't see a thread on this in the HD forum so I figured I'd post this here.

I just got finished watching "The Killer Cut" and my opinion of the film remains about the same; I'd give it 6/10 or so at best. My main problems with the movie are
Spoiler:
that the pacing is very strange. I love the opening 20 minutes or so after the horribly edited flashback opener. But then after that things just slow to a halt, especially during the last few minutes, as there are no good kills. The suspense is pretty limited and the director did a much better job with the "TCM" remake as far as his filming style. The one scene that is the worst is when Brie has been killed and then Trent shoots the door and runs in to see what it is. That scene feels like it's in fast forward.

But, more importantly, that was one lousy-looking Blu-ray. I saw the film in theaters, so I know it was looks like it was shot on different mediums. But the Blu-ray looks pretty awful. Besides some heavy filtering/DNR/whatever, which causes faces to look waxy as hell, the whole movie looks incredibly soft and blurry. There is little fine detail and most night shots are a mess. I remember thinking in the theater that Jared Padelcki's five o'clock shadow was very detailed (my mind was wondering apparently) - it's not on Blu-ray. Yikes New Line.

I haven't heard anything, but where there any store exclusives on this one?

I didn't see this in the theaters, so I watched it for the first time last night.
****SPOILER ALERT****

Can someone please explain why Jason kept Whitney(The Red Headed Girl) as a pet? I mean, I thought his whole MO was that he killed EVERYONE(except kids, of course) he came into contact with. But, he kept her alive for a month(?!) in his underground lair? Did he feed her, give her water, etc? And then, when Whitney escaped, what did Jason do when he caught up with her? He just dragged her back to his lair and chained her up again! Huh?! Am I missing something here?

Re: friday the 13th remake unrated dvd

I think it was implied in that one line of dialogue that because she looked kind of like Mrs. Voorhees, that Jason would not want to kill her.

They could have definitely elaborated on that one line, but it's there.

It came out Friday February 13th. It was a pretty high profile release that month.

It also had a pretty huge opening weekend - somewhere around $45 million if I remember right.

it really befuddles me how and why when a movie gets transferred to hidef (blu-ray) it doesn't mirror say, the DLP 'digital projection' version - which I saw 'Friday the 13th' in. Sad it's inferior to the DLP theatrical version.

Would you recommend getting the SD over the BD then?

I haven't decided which one to get, but if the transfer isn't that great on the BD, I might just pick up the SD.

That's a tough question, as it's hard to recommend standard over high-def, however the transfer is pretty lacking on Blu. I think the featurettes on the best kills are only on Blu, but honestly they're 22 minutes and kind of throw-away.

You are likely the only one who thinks this. HDD gave it a 4.5. DVDTalk a 3.5. Blu-ray.com a 3.5. Personally it looks really sharp and I've seen far worse from studios this year on Day and Dates.

The exclusive special features suck.

And Film Freak Central gave it a C. That's why I didn't say to absolutely not get it, but it doesn't look great and it doesn't look like the theatrical presentation.

Does not look DNRed or EEed to me

The transfer for the BD is solid, but the main problem is with the compression. Warner put two encodes on the disc rather than using seamless branching. :thmbsdwn:

Yeah...not sure why they did that. Warner has used seamless before (Blade Runner).

I was mostly wondering because of the price difference. I love having Blu-Ray as an option, but with this release there is a $10 price difference (sale pricing) and I wanted to get the best one.

The features on the BD didn't seem too interesting but at the very least I wanted the film to look great (though I missed it during it's theatrical run)

Re: friday the 13th remake unrated dvd

I went with the BD as I plan on upgrading the original franchise to BD under the following conditions that may or may not happen:

1) Paramount releases IV - VIII on BD. Here's hoping we see IV, V and VI on BD when VII and VIII hit DVD in September.

2) Paramount makes a box set instead of buying each one individually.

3) I can purchase the box set at a great price (i.e. last week's Fry's deal for Paramount's Star Trek BD box set last weekend where one could snag it for under $60).

I bought the original franchise box set due to that amazing price snafu at Blockbuster ($24.99). I really don't want to have to pay more than $50+ to upgrade the eight films to Blu, especially since only the first is uncut.
