Re: Wizard of Oz 70th Anniversary Edition ---> 4th quarter 2009 (rumor)

Would it be wise to keep the 3 disc special edition unopened and buy the new version?

I bought the 3 disc edition 3 years ago which is out of print but I never opened it.

The bottom of the box had a crease and I was thinking of exchanging it but now it is too late.

While there's the slight chance that not everything will be ported over, I think it's safe to unload this one while there's no official date (alas, we're taking pre-orders for this and the Gone With The Wind 70th Ann. Editions, but have no dates other than Dec. '09), and get the new one.

I don't care what they add to make up the 5 disc. The 3 discers more than enough for me & I'm a sucker for bonus features.

I wouldn't be surprised if one of those five discs was a digital copy...

Can a 10 disc 70th anniversary Gone With The Wind be far behind?

The most I'd expect for GWTW on BluRay would be three Blu discs (two for the movie, one for the extras) and the 2-disc musical score that's been out. Then there's the possibility for a digital copy DVD and a feature-length documentary on Selznick.

You mean the original WB 1-disc release in the cardboard sleeve has material that is NOT on the 3 disk set? According to Amazon, the 3-disc set has everything! I'm confused. What are the differences?

I'm not sure if the newer set has the following items which were "Easter Eggs" on the old 1-disc Special Edition release:

Munchkin Information - Enter the "Special Features" screen from the main menu and select the "Oz Characters" option. Choose Glinda, then select the glowing orb above her wand.

Flying Monkey Information - Enter the "Special Features" screen from the main menu and select the "Oz Characters" option. Choose the Wicked Witch, then select the hourglass.

According to an update from ZonaDVD.com, it is now known that NBC's Frank Baum biopic The Dreamer of Oz with John Ritter and Annette O'Toole is going to be included in the set.

Kind of off subject, but one of the Munchkins died last Monday. He lived a few miles away from me in Central Texas. I think there's something like 9 left.

I do love that idea of adding Dark Side of the Moon. Now that would make it the ultimate addition for me.

it is now available for preorder at Amazon for $48.99 and the blu-ray is $59.49

There is no info on a release date but it did show this

Each set will be numbered as part of a limited set, while supplies last.
Don't know how limited it will truly be.

Another one who didn't pick up the 3 disc. So this is some great news. I'll take the big one.

I kept meaning to pick up the 3-disc edition but never did. I'll finally be (sort of) upgrading my home theater this summer, so I'll definitely pick up the best Blu-Ray edition.

I don't believe this is official yet, but looking through our reservation list at FYE, this will get released on September 29th.

Take this with a grain of salt, though, since we haven't had the official announcement yet.
