No commentary; no sale.
As for digital copies, my only complaint is they use them to make a release sound bigger, "3-disc" collector's edition, when from my viewpoint and money it's still a 2 -disc one.

As happens more and more these days, here is a "collector's edition" (of a movie I really like) that I'm not tempted to collect.

Wow, that looks so lame for a collector's edition.

And yes, the whole adding a "digital copy" fad needs to end, especially if it results in jacking up the quantity and price.

Those extra features just seem to be a collection of promo materials. I don't understand the Coens' reticence on commentary tracks - it's not like they haven't done one before (The Man Who Wasn't There). A track with the directors and principal actors would have been a hoot - almost as good as a digital copy.

Definitely getting this as I don't have it yet, but that cover is god awful, even without the DC banner.

Two things... While the digital copy has never been any sort of deal maker/breaker for me, it's been nice to put some movies on my iPod. Don't understand the hate.

Second, my policy of not buying movies for a year after they come out is paying off yet again!!!

I dunno. Even if the Coens have a track to their name, I'm still surprised anyone would expect one at all -- they didn't do one for Fargo or The Big Lebowski, why would they do one for this?

Reticence? I don't understand why audio commentaries are compulsory. Some personalities aren't suited for audio commentaries. The Coens didn't seem particularly comfortable commenting on The Man Who Wasn't There, and there would've been a lot of dead air had Billy Bob not been there to liven things up.

My two cents...

I don't think archival interviews are necessarily a cop-out, depending on the substance of a given archive. I've found Charlie Rose interviews to often be the highlight of extras on a given DVD. He does good, insightful interviews, not puff pieces. You'd probably get more substance from the Coens on Charlie Rose than a produced-for-DVD interview that regurgitates answers they've given many times.

As for the rest, well, I can't vouch for Variety or EW, haha.

And fuck digital copies. Trying to download the Dark City digital copy really screwed up my DVD drive. Lots of time & frustration trying to fix that.

I agree.

Not that I care whether anyone buys this release or not, but it's a little odd to me that several people in this thread seem to be dismissive of it simply because it doesn't include a commentary, despite having some lengthy, quality interviews with the principals. Even if the Cohens were to record a commentary, I can't imagine they would have much more to say than what is already discussed in the interviews (and there would almost certainly be a fair bit of dead air if it were just the two of them).

all those extras for the most seem simple interviews and none of the nitty gritty of a making-of doc, which I would want to see...

I can't believe so many are into commentaries Most of them are unfiltered garbage that adds nothing to the movie.

I'll bite. Some really great tidbits can be found in those Q&As, I feel.

It's too bad the Tarantino-directed Josh Brolin screen test won't be included.

these appear to very lame features, no good reason to double-dip on this title, I'll pass, thankfully.

This proves that cover art is a really important factor when for film studios. This looks absolutely horrendous...

I have the previous DVD that's out. I haven't picked up the Blu-Ray yet, so I'll go ahead and get this on Blu.

I got this a few days ago...

Its a bigger then normal folding digipack with a slip cover. Nice and shiny but the slip is way too tight. Pain to get it back in.

Love the movie: my hands-down favorite for 2007. But still holding out for a decent DVD release before buying it though. I easily passed on the bare-bones initial release, and I will pass on this new one too.
