We didn't buy a lot of 2008 releases this year, but I was happy with Tropic Thunder Director's Cut and Psych: The Complete Second Season. We rented Forgetting Sarah Marshall and while we didn't finish watching all the extras, I enjoyed what we did see. |
I thought the Iron Man DVD was very good. Somewhere in between barebones and exhaustive, which is just the way I like my features.
|
going for overall DVD(s) that i actually saw at least one extra and was interested in and then movie or tv series...
The Dark Knight (SteelBook) (but I also got the Target 3rd disc for free and put into, so overall, very pleased with movie, of course, and then the extras) Iron Man (UE) Step Brothers (UR) The Sopranos (Complete Series) The Mist (CE) The Godfather (Coppola Restoration Collection) Spaced (Complete Series) WarGames (25th) Child's Play (20th) Forgetting Sarah Marshall (CE) Touch of Evil (50th) Redbelt Mad Men (S1) |
The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters
Across the Universe: 2-Disc Deluxe Edition Walker: The Criterion Collection Lost Highway: Spotlight Series Meet the Spartans: Unrated Pit-of-Death Edition The Ruins: Unrated Sleeping Beauty: 50th Anniversary Platinum Edition The Gamers: Dorkness Rising Walt Disney Treasures: Chronological Donald: Volume 4 The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian: 3-Disc Collector's Edition |

little rascals collection. dvd set of the year hands down imo. been watching it since the day i got it.
|
Poultrygeist and Dr. Syn are the two that come to mind.
|
i would have to say iron man its a cool looking steel book and i also like the dvd packageing of the hulk 3 disc set i dont know why i know its a regular dvd packaging but for some reason i like it. dont get me wrong the dark knight steelbook is great but im very disapointed in the special features i feel us dvd collecters got bum rush by warner brothers. so iron is my faviort dvd of 2008.
|
I would say The Real Ghostbusters set, The Dark Knight and Iron Man are a few of my favorites.
|
Poultrygeist is definitely my favorite release of the year.

Funnily enough, I felt there wasn't a release I saw this year that I thought was great, especially after the Blade Runner SE released in 07, but the 2 disc Dirty Harry came very close but the Australian release didn't have the trailer gallery and as a result it missed out.
Hopefully, this year will create some good releases and hopefully, a long overdue special edition for The Road Warrior, heres hoping. |

Night Gallery Season 2 The Angelique Collection Black Narcissus (UK Bd) Tammy triple feature Midnight Jean de Florette/Manon Of The Spring (remastered) The Apartment SE The Fugitive S1 V2 Weird Science S1 & 2 Valarie And Her Week Of Wonders (R2) Tread Softly Stranger (R2) How The West Was Won (Bd) Capricorn One (UK Bd) Fox Western Classics The Major And The Minor The Bank Job I'm sure the list will expand as there are many more releases I've bought but haven't had a chance to watch yet- the Budd Boetticher set, Fanny, The Bond Bds, The Planet Of The Apes Bd set, Dr Syn, amongst others. Lots of great catalog titles made it out last year, got remastered, and/or were released on Bd. Hopefully a bad economy won't impinge on 2009s slate severely. |
So many visits to DVDTalk, and yet I have only 5 releases from this year. :) At least coming up with a top five isn't too taxing. ;)

Iron Man by far. The Dark Knight was my favorite film of the year but between its sub-par PQ and lack of extras I have to hand it to Tony Stark. Sorry Bruce.
