What's the 1st VHS You Bought?
Inspired by another thread.
Mine was Friday the 13th Part 3 (it was awesome and really scary as I was in 3rd grade at the time (now it's just laughably bad)) |
I'll jump on this thread...
It was either Speed, Jurassic Park, or Reservoir Dogs... can't really remember exactly. |
Halloween by Media Blasters I think.
My family bought Honey I Shrunk the Kids first. The first thing I ever got personally was Star Trek I-V on VHS.
The Star Wars trilogy (Parts IV-VI)
Top Gun
I bought Back to the Future for five dollars at McDonalds. I was a little kid and felt so cool to do that.
Tough one -- I know I started buying VHS when studios began releasing widescreen versions. Speed may have been the first one, come to think of it.

I think I purchased Batman and Robin for myself. Um... yeah. Let's just pretend that never happened. I was just a little kid after all.
The first VHS that I ever bought for my own personal collection was Independence Day. The funny thing is, I didn't think much of the movie when I saw it, but I thought the lenticular cover was awesome. In twelve years of movie collecting, not much has really changed.
I'm sure I bought/got a lot while ages 4-5-6 and all that but I remember being in Wal-Mart in I think 1990 maybe and seeing a huge display for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and me and my mom didnt think it was the movie for some reason so we didn't get it. So we went home and told my dad and he said yeah that it you should've bought it, so we drove back to town (40 minutes roughly) and bought it. Thats my first memory of buying one

Total Recall
I bought very few VHS movies, because I really didn't like how easily they could be damaged. I rented and recorded a lot, but probably owned less than 10 movies. The first "real" movie I bought might have been Raiders of the Lost Ark when McDonalds had a Young Indiana Jones promotion. I figured it would be worth it for $5.
I do remember surrendering to the hype and buying Jurassic Park when it came out on VHS. |
I remember buying Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I don't remember any before that.
It was either a widescreen copy of Halloween or a bootleg of Transformers the Movie I picked up at a comic show.
I didn't collect VHS films. Back then, movies recorded from HBO or something kept me tided over as a kid. Although, I think my first brought VHS was Ghostbusters II.
