Anyone purposely own a FS DVD when WS is available?

OK, Im not talking about flippers or disc with both formats on it. I am talking about a Full Screen version that is seperate from the Widescreen. I myself own The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation Lionsgate canadian DVD which is FS but the exteded cut of the movie, Poison Ivy triple feature which are all FS and I own Ginger Snaps US release because I haven't gotten around to buying the canadian and I got the KEY DVD from a yard sale for $0.25

I don't think I've ever purchases a full-screen DVD on purpose, but I've picked up a few and by mistake and decided to keep them, anyway.

chris_sc77 12-20-08 04:30 PM

Just the first 4 or 5 seasons of the Shield. I bought them when they came out but havnt picked up the re-released versions that are WS.

kstublen 12-20-08 04:33 PM

I purchased a Full Screen Version of The Simpsons Movie. I already owned the Widescreen version and wanted both. Other than that, I usually don't purchase Full Screen Versions if there are Widescreen Versions available.

I think the only one that fits that bill in my collection is the Elite "Evil Dead," simply because there's so much controversy regarding that film's aspect ratio. I own two other versions that include WS transfers of it, though.

i have Wedding Crashers just bc it was like $5.00 or something when i bought it and only version they had.

I can't remember if all the hubbub was actually true or not, but don't some people have the FS copy of The Break Up because of the extra ... uhh, footage?

Jedi Master 33 12-20-08 06:36 PM

I brought the original Star Wars Trilogy in FS because it was the cheapest I could find it{they were all out of WS} and because FS is the way I have always watched these three movies.

danwiz 12-20-08 06:39 PM

No!

My Other Self 12-20-08 06:41 PM

When WS was available? No. I have the Police Academy collection which has 3 and 4 FS only, and I used to have a bunch of the early WB films that were only in Pan & Scan.. but I've since upgraded.

emachine12 12-20-08 06:45 PM

Bought The Prince and Me and Saints and Soldiers in Thailand but failed to notice they were Fullscreen. I would have left them behind for my cousins but Prince and Me was about $1.50 US and has DTS 5.1 sound while Saints and Soldiers was about $3.00 US.

Worth it for me.

JZ1276 12-20-08 06:46 PM

I own both Eyes Wide Shut fs and ws versions. Prefer the FS to the WS.

The Shield was framed for a 4:3 aspect ratio, the new 16:9 releases are not OAR. Only episode of the show that was framed for 16:9 was one of the episodes in Season 4.

How does the FS Simpsons Movie DVD look- is it panned and scanned from the 2.35 version, or is there more picture at the top and bottom, or did they re-do stuff like the Pixar movies?

It's not true... at least not for the dvd.
What happened was there were some shots leaked out that showed the full original camera frame (before being cropped to the WS intended shot). As a result, you could then see Jennifer Aniston's breasts. (not gonna link it here, but a web search can easily locate the pic).
The FS dvd, however, is just a further cropped version of the WS, NOT opened back up to reveal the unintended nudity.

This

hotsexyboi 12-20-08 10:38 PM

Lord No! I can not stand fullscreen and if I ever make a mistake by buying a DVD in fs and then finding out it is in ws then I imediatly get rid of the fs and go buy the ws version. Every DVD I have is in their oar!

Living Dead 12-21-08 12:35 AM

Te only one I can think of is the original National Lampoon's Vacation because of the additional nudity.

JJE-187 12-21-08 12:51 AM

I own the Poison Ivy's in FS because I own them just for the nudity and the movies are not watched that much anyways and you don't gain anything with the induvidual ws/fs versions and I save space with the single disc Triple Feature. Like I mentioned I own the canadian TCM: The Next Gen because it's the extended cut and Ginger Snaps cause it cost $0.25 :)

SethDLH 12-21-08 03:01 AM

I've got Dawn of the Dead (04) and Land of the Dead both in FS... it bugs me when I look at it but they aren't titles I watch often, so its not a big deal. Plus I can get ws versions of them for under $5

ken_572002 12-21-08 05:55 AM

Universal relesaed the 1949 John Wayne film "Jet Pilot", in a widescreen matted format onto DVD (included in a box set). The laserdisc from the mid 1990s was released in the correct aspect ratio, and this is the version I watch.

If Universal would ever see to release the correct full screen version of this film, I'd double-dip.

marty888 12-21-08 07:57 AM

No .... but then, I've never sipped Drano or sliced my wrists, either.

hitman tommy 12-21-08 10:47 AM

Never on purpose only time I have is just when it's a movie I've bought previously viewed and only full was available in their stock

comanche_doyle 12-21-08 11:52 AM

any that I have were bought by mistake. Sideways, and the Scarface anniversary edition come to mind.

Travis McClain 12-21-08 01:32 PM

We have some DVD's that are in FS (and WS are available). These are all purchases my wife made before I finished converting her to WS. To this day, she teases me about exchanging the FS "Indiana Jones" boxed set she bought me for my birthday for the WS version. She's come a long way, though, and now that we have a widescreen TV, she knows to look for aspect ratio information. She used to roll her eyes when I would put back a title that's in FS; now I have to catch her sometimes, because she'll put them back, even if that's the OAR!
