This unfortantely is referring to several stats (above and under your name) as well as comments I'd originally intended on including. Apologies If you have missing quotes or tidbits of info underneath your name, just realize it's NOT because of your lack of witty repartee or that you had nothing even remotely interesting to say ....I'd simply prefer to have this up before Christmas rolls around. :p

Hopefully this idea (the bolded section) will come to fruition next year and we'll have stats coming out the wazoo.
Volunteers welcome. :D

Great job, Chad!

RobCA 11-09-08 09:53 PM

8th place, woohoo! I didn't think I'd make it into the top 10.

Congrats, poster mayhem, that's really impressive! And thanks to Chad for taking the time to do this every year, and for always doing it so well.

Rob

smashthesymbols 11-09-08 10:11 PM

Thanks for all the work you put in on this Chad.

Wait. Prize giveaway? Winner? Me? I didn't even know there were prizes.

NoirFan 11-09-08 10:13 PM

It was a blast - didn't think I'd finish so high! I really enjoyed watching junk like Killer Party and Night of the Bloody Apes, films I'd normally avoid like the plague. The challenge also gave me the motivation to track down titles I'd always wanted to see, like I Was a Teenage Werewolf and The Uninvited. Now, thanks to Chad, when people ask me the worst film I've ever seen, I can answer "Grotesque", confidently and without any hesitation.

The Monkees 11-10-08 01:31 AM

Harbors an immense dislike of "Timecode"
I don't get it, what does that mean?

Also the Holiday Movie Challenge begins on the 24th NOT the 17th, that's my fault I haven't gotten a mod to change the thread title.

caligulathegod 11-10-08 03:27 AM

Yay! Fun for all this year. Thanks.

Thanks to Chad for compiling all the info once again and props to those who reached a crazy amount of movies.

Gotta love all those boobies.....

Winner of the nonexistent "Most posts in a DVDTalk challenge" award with an astonishing combined total of 258 posts!

Special thanks for your work on the checklist and the "31 Films in 31 Days" thread.

 indeed. Did I really post that much? Sorry everyone.

Watched a bit more than I would have liked, but got sucked into it as usual. Everyone here makes these things a blast, and I'm looking forward to our next challenge. Proud that I mainly stuck to first time viewings, really trying to watch my collection instead of just buying stuff. And if anyone has never been to a film festival, I heartily recommend them.

Chad, we're all lucky to have someone like you leading this thing. You continually go above and beyond. I can't imagine the time you put into this stat compiling. I apologize for not stepping up and pushing forward that "stat team" idea. I was a little burnt out and avoided the forum a bit the last week or so. Next year we'll help you out more.

Thanks again to you and everyone else for a fun month of horror.

Edit to add: My own fault for not properly numbering my list (don't think we should number above 100), but my countable total was only 139, and 121 first-time viewings.

Contemplated sneaking in some non-horror movies with horror movie titles. The audacity!

3rd place? -eek- How'd that happen? 164 movies would've only been 9th place last year.

Actually, since the Cubs completely blew it in the playoffs, it only cost me probably 3 movies. I had the whole month planned out when the playoff games were and didn't think I could even get to 31.

If the Cubs would have made it a little farther, I would have been plagued by this very tough question: Watch the Cubs in the world series or watch Claw of Terror?

We definitely had fewer certifiably insane people this year. Only two people who averaged more than 10 hours of viewing per day. A couple of 24 hour days in there though.

Holy crap! I won a prize then? Thats cool if so.
This was my first year of the challenge and I gotta say i enjoyed the hell out of it. I have to give special thanks to my beautiful wonderful girlfriend who loves horror movies even more than I do and who helped me with the challenge a great amount.
I loved that the challenge helped me watch many great (and not so great) films I have owned for years but have never watched until this challenge. Thanks to all who set this challenge up. I cant wait to participate next year as well.

Chad, it's no big deal but those 22 movies were the movies from the "31 movies in 31 days" list I watched, not first time viewings (I didn't keep track of those).

Edit: Quick count of first time viewings: 89.

Reading that out of context, it just sounds weird...
Actually in context it sounds weird too.
Maybe I'm just weird.
No wonder nobody replies to my posts.

Will forever be associated with "Death Bed: The Bed that Eats"

I'm so proud to have the distinction of being associated with such a fine piece of celluloid art... maybe a "31 Days" entry??

Thanks, Chad for all the hard work. I had a great time!

Good call on suggesting Death Bed: The Bed that Eats as one of the 31 next year. I second that. I have already purchased it from the DDD/DVD Planet 25% off sale for next year. It will always be known to me as "that Dick Laurent bed movie."

Patton Oswalt does a funny bit about the film.

To everyone that met their personal goals, if it was 1 or 100 or more, congratulations! This was a lot of fun.

I managed to review around 175 of the films I watched, but when I decided to up my viewing they were dropped. And yes, I was feeling pretty insanse towards the end, the last two days alone I watched between 18 and 19 hours each day.

I can pretty much guarantee that I'll participate again next year but with a much more reasonable goal. Largely because I doubt I'll be able to take the month off (I'm paying for it now having to work lots of extra hours to make up work) and also because many of the Masters of Horrors episodes, the lengths of which made this possible, really weren't things I'll want to watch again. I haven't watched a horror film since October, not that it has put a bad taste in my mouth, but a break was necessary. On to next year!

Vows to be better prepared for next year's list formatting

Actually, it was I'll be better prepared for next year's challenge (as I only discovered this in the last week).
Not sure what the "formatting" thing means, unless it came from this comment on my list post:
"It's a short list, and nothing fancier than just a plain list of titles."

...and I can TOTALLY identify with one of the previous posters, as I also have a wife who doesn't care for horror movies (or ANY movies, for that matter), and a 2-year old who keeps me plenty busy! It does tend to hinder your movie-watching! :)

I would have had 134 if I had been able to make it through Howling III. Did anyone else abandon films partway through?
