Last House On The Left: Collector's Edition 2/24/09
The UK just got a nice 3 disc set of this film, and now it looks as if MGM is prepping for a re-release. No specs as of yet, but it has now made me hold off from buying the UK disc.
|
Not surprising since the remake is coming out.
|
Also isn't the Uncut R1 release OOP?
I'd definitely pickup the new disc simply for new/more extras. Also wouldn't hurt if it had the UK SE cover art :) |
what is there that could fill up 3 discs?
and fuck, why are they remaking this? the grittyness and cheapness of it make the movie scary imo. Also, i wonder if they did the main big scenes shot for shot, if they'd get an R? |
No idea the current version was out of print. Seemed to happen to many MGM releases. I'll hold on to mine for now, but definitely will be interested in the double dip.
As far as the remake, I can't see it. There is stuff director's got away with in the 80s that would not go over now. The part were they make her pee her pants and then force them to make out with each other would probably outrage people if it was done in a new film. |
what's the source for the info OP?
|
The R1 MGM was already a pretty darn good release when it came out 6 years ago.
This is still one of the hardest and most uncomfortable and disturbing horror films I have seen. I watched it the week I picked it up (which was the release week) and I have not went back to it for a 2nd viewing. It is very good and powerful but it is pretty disturbing and not cool if you find cool chicks subjected to the things they are in this one. |

I knew this was coming and I am looking forward to it. I dunno if I need it to be 3-discs, but it will be nice to just have it as a non-flipper.

The original came out in 1972, but I agree with you there. A remake will probably end up being a torture porn retread. I am looking forward to Sara Paxton in all sorts of interesting situations though....

Do we have a source on this at all?
|
From DVD Drive-In:
On February 24, MGM will be releasing a new “Collector’s Edition” DVD of Wes Craven’s 1972 cult drive-in shocker, THE LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT. Extras will include an Audio Commentary with actors David Hess, Marc Sheffler and Fred Lincoln; a Wes Craven Featurette;“Celluloid Crime of the Century” (featurette);“Scoring Last House” (featurette);“Tales that Will Tear Your Heart Out” (featurette); Deleted Scene - Mari Dying at the Lake; Never Before Seen Outtakes; Wes Craven's Annotated Shooting Scripts and a Photo Gallery. The retail price for the disc is $19.99. |
For those curious, here is the content of the 3-disc R2 edition:
Disc 1 * Feature commentary by write/director Wes Craven and Producer Sean S. Cunningham; * 2nd Feature Commentary by stars David Hess, Marc Sheffler and Fred Lincoln; * "Celluloid Crime Of The Century" making of... documentary (40 mins); * "Scoring Last House..." featurette with David Hess; * "Krug Conquers England" charting the theatrical tour of the first even UNCUT screening of the film in the UK; * 20 mins of outtakes and dailies * US theatrical trailer; * German theatrical trailer; * TV spots; * Radio spots Disc 2: * "Krug & Company": rare COMPLETE ALTERNATE CUT of the film; * Exclusive interview with Carl Daft of Exploited Films, who took the BBFC to courts over the film's banned status; * WORLD EXCLUSIVE never before seen footage only recently discovered * "Tales to Tear Your Heart Out" - excerpt from a short film starring David Hess and directed by Wes Craven Disc 3: * "Going To Pieces: The Rise and Fall of the Slasher Film" feature length documentary on the 'slasher' film phenomenon that followed "Last House..."; * Filmmakers commentary; * Deleted scenes; * Horror film quiz |
I already have Going to Pieces, but I'm still strongly considering the UK release. If the US one confirms the extra footage, I'll just buy that, though.

I'll have to keep my eye out for more detailed specs. For some reason I just can't see the US getting a 3-disc SE for this movie :) |

MGM's new SE sounds kinda lame. I mean, it gives us most of the video bonuses, but appears to drop Craven/Cunningham's original commentary, and mainly it loses the alternate cut of the movie.
|
They're dropping the current commentary. Which is too bad, because regardless of a previous comment I liked the commentary between Craven and Cunningham.
|
|
The cover looks like it would be used for the remake. I don't mind it but it just doesn't fit for the original.
|
Terrible cover
|
Does anyone have the 3 disc r2 that could tell me how that transfer is on it?
I'm way more interested in that than this new MGM (especially with that horrible cover). |
So this is only a single disc release for R1?
|
aggreed, also a deceptive cover too
