How are you replaceing DVD Spot?
I think most are curious as to what the majority are doing to replace DVD Spot. I know people posted in the DVD Spot thread, but I thought a poll would be better.
I use the free parts of Profiler to have a directory saved on my computer, but online its Aficonado.
I've been using a spreadsheet created by Google Docs. It's not much but it's a suitable replacement until something better comes along.
I'm using DVDAF for now, only because I already had the bulk of my titles on there when I switched over to spot. AF and Profiler don't offer close to the online functionality of Spot, so I'll eventually switch over to hosting my own using the export feature of my offline database software Movie Collector from collectorz.com. I'm not going to invest any more time in re-adding my 3000 titles to online collection sites that can just up and disappear one day a'la Guzzlefish, Spot, etc.
Haven't replaced yet, still weeping and gnashing my teeth.

dvdaf

Nothing I've seen can 'replace' DVDSpot :( but I've been using DVDAficionado.

Vodka. Lots and lots of vodka. :(
I haven't decided yet...I've begun playing around with setting things up in excel or a google spreadsheet. I wish there was one great option out there, but unfortunately all of the choices have some significant flaws.
I'm using DVD Profiler (still the free version) because a) I'm broke, and b) most of my collection was on there to begin with. I only had to update 20 or so titles and I did that before DVD Spot closed.

DVDAf

I'm using Libra. I don't care that much about having my collection online, so it's serving my purposes very well (keeping track of all my owned movies, what I haven't watched, etc).
I've been Profiler and DVDAf all along, too, but the 'Spot was still my favorite. I miss it.
I've been slowly but surely transferring everything to Chasing The Frog. So far out of about 1600 or so, there has only been about 4 titles they didn't have. Not bad.
Right now, I'm just updating the backup spreadsheet file from DVDSpot. The idea of having to (again) input every DVD into a new program is dispiriting. Maybe when I get some extra cash I'll pay for DVDProfiler (so the plug-in for importing will work past 50 DVD's).
Is there a free option that will import the DVDSpot backup file? |
I'm going to be using DVDPedia.
Ive been using Coolector
I just played around with chasingthefrog, and dvdaf. I know I'm still jokingly bitter about losing dvdspot, but neither of these are grabbing me.
DVDSpot pulled me in pretty quickly, I found the interface both easy to use and nice to look at it. These aren't doing it yet. I just saw Libra, and that it has an import feature. Has anyone imported a spot collection into libra? |
Other for me. I'm using Tellico and keeping track of everything offline. I have no online solution yet since DVDaf apparently doesn't offer an import function and I'm not even going to consider entering my entire collection by hand again.

Microsoft Excel

I was using both DVDSpot and Profiler before. Now it will just be Profiler. I've played around with Chasing The Frog and DVDAf, but both of them are lacking compared to Spot.
Ok, I did some playing with and research on Libra and Chasingthefrog.
Both are absolutely not options for me. Libra is dead. It hasn't been updated since Sept 2007, the forums are absolutely dead. Chasingthefrog's forums are completely dead as well. For a collector database grown out of a forum, that is not an encouraging sign. I'm going to give Profiler and Aficionado a thorough test, but then likely end up just updating my dvdspot backup file. |
Profiler for all dvd's.
DVDAF for just SteelBooks. |
