Love the film but calling this a Special Edition is a stretch. A featurette with Illeana Douglas. Blu-ray has a few more extras.

"The Blu-ray release will include that, along with additional scenes/outtakes, and an alternate ending."

I've never gotten around to buying this on DVD, and probably would have picked this up, but since they're withholding some of the extras (a stupid and annoying move), I'll withhold my cash. Thanks for saving me some money, Warner! -ptth-

What a piece of shit DVD. I will Never buy this because they are putting EXCLUSIVE features on the BLu-ray could have easily fit on the DVD.

One of my all-time favorite movies. Would have been a sure-fire upgrade for me. Since I'm not Blu and won't be any time in the foreseeable future... NO SALE!

WB SE's suck lately. I mean look at Poltergeist, and wasn't the almost bare Beetlejuice a WB title too...?

Yeah, I'll be buying the BD, but I agree that it's lame to withhold extras from the DVD. I want BD to succeed, but this isn't the way to do it.

However, do we know the DVD won't have those extras? I wouldn't be surprised if this info is incorrect.

BTW, I'm not too crazy about the cover art, but I guess they felt they had to distinguish it from the old release.

This would absolutely be a no-brainer buy for me but since WB have decided to give Blu-ray exclusive features, I say fuck you to WB.

Not giving my money to Warner for this, even if I love the film. And in general, Warner Bros. has really been getting cheap lately. Considering the underrated Hal Ashby and the great Peter Sellers; and that this is one of the last great movies of the 1970s, you would think they'd be able to put together a commentary for this release, or a documentary or something. Some deluxe edition. Its as if Sarah Palin were in charge of WB's classic film department.

In any case, I'm not getting my hopes up for any more good special editions from this company; or silent films, or a Tex Avery box. I'll believe them when I see them.

WB have definitely begun to slip a bit, and the Blu-Ray exclusive extras are a pretty cheap marketing ploy. Weren't these guys once the gold standard for catalog titles done right?

My sentiments exactly. I opened the thread to find out more information about a release I was really interested in buying but now want nothing to do with.

As much as I loathe the idea of blu-ray exclusive special features that could easily be on a regular DVD, I could at least understand what they were trying to do if they did it on a big title like The Dark Knight. However, I don’t understand the logic of trying it with a relatively obscure catalogue title such as this one? I can’t imagine it being a big seller as it is on either medium. Why they would want to poke their finger into the eye of those who know the movie and would plan to buy it is beyond bizarre to me.

I'm with the lot of you. They should have released it on both versions. I love this movie, but I'm not going to get a Blu-Ray now for one dvd.

Looks like a pretty shitty "Special" edition. Still if I can find the DVD for $3 bucks I'll prob. bite just to have the great movie.

Not as weak as the Poltergeist SE, but pretty damn close. I assume the gag take is the same as the one that runs over the closing credits?

I have the '01 edition and it's a lovely transfer. Anyone with the original has no reason to re-buy until BluRay. Anyone who doesn't should pick up the '01 used for cheap and/or get the BluRay.

As for extras, does this really have potential for added stuff? The director, writer, stars (except for Shirley MacLaine), producer, etc. are all gone.

I'm keeping the first edition, but upgrading when I go Blu. Even if the SD edition had all the exclusive extras, it's a waste of money if you're already an owner of the first.

I said this before I got my PS3, and I'll say it now. The high definition video and audio should be the selling points for Blu-Ray. Not exclusive extras.

Agreed. Buying the Blu-ray, highly discourage the idiocy of shafting DVD owners.

I was hoping there would at least be some documentary or more behind the scenes stuff, especially featuring Biltmore House, since I live near it. Now I'm happy to stay with the snapper case version I already have.
