Having engaged in the full-screen pleasures of a Waxwork double feature the other day, I must say that the butt-chined Zach Galligan is a real chore to watch, especially in back to back features. Then again, any actor would look ridiculous uttering lines like "If we can re-animate dead flesh, the prosecution's entire case is out the window!" and "You mean God wants me to be a time warrior?" The first film sticks to the horror template and delivers some decent gory silliness, but the sequel (really in name only) tries for a slapstick/fantasy angle, with predictably dire results.

I've only seen Zach Galligan in Gremlins and Gremlins 2: The New Batch, and I watched those back-to-back. I can't imagine, though, his acting career has peaked beyond those two movies. He does do a decent commentary.

So late last night I go outside to bring the cat in from the cold and notice a large box on the carport sitting by the door I never use. It was an Amazon package from the Halloween sale. Turns out the postal carrier decided to leave it there without notifying me instead of putting it in the mailbox that could have easily accommodated it.

Did I mention its been sitting there for 2 weeks?? Yeah, and it had both H.G. Lewis sets, Fox Horror vol 1 & 2, Val Lewton, Aztec Mummy, Sam Katzman and Legends of Horror boxsets alongside a few others ordered specifically for the latter part of this challenge. Now, with less than 4 days left, there's no possible way to view even half of them.

Guess you gotta find humor in the fact that I've walked right past it 30+ times without noticing every time I get in/out of the car. It's always something.

Why don't they ever show the Garfield Halloween special anymore? It's been like 10 years! And the DVD edited out the last scene of Garfield being chased home by the pirate ghosts.

I watched both the Waxwork films yesterday. They're on Fearnet On Demand for free for Comcast digital cable people. I've watched the first one a number of times but honestly didn't remember the 2nd one. I think they're both good clean schlocky fun. I mean Zach Galligan ain't gonna be winning any Oscars, but neither will most people in 80's horror comedies. I'll admit the 2nd one drops in quality overall a bit but makes up for it with even more over the top parody of a number of famous films including The Haunting, Aliens, Dawn of the Dead, and lots of others. Bruce Campbell has a nice bit role too. Part 1 was better, but part 2 was played for laughs and entertainment over horror. Both are unique though at the very least, so I can't fault them for that.

I love this movie. I have the crappy Diamond copy that is full screen, and that has served its purpose well. I've been a big fan for about 20 years from when I first discovered it. Kind of weird that I go on AICN and they have a review of it... so much for keeping my little-known horror treasures to myself (and this board, of course!)... but at least it gets a good transfer.

Death Bed, you magnificent bastard! I must admit to a bit of trepidation at first, when 55 seconds of blank, black screen, accompanied by a soundtrack of what sounded like someone munching on carrots greeted me, but I soon found myself immersed in the film's strange, inscrutable world. I won't attempt a synopsis, as I'm still not sure what the hell transpired, but the multiple character voice-over narration, Manos-esque pacing, and curiously mesmerizing shots of various objects floating in an orange-colored water all contributed to Death Bed's unique appeal. A disorienting slice of 70's oddball cinema. I had to check IMDB to make sure the curly-haired dude wasn't the dad from Malcolm in the Middle.

Edit to add: I just added this movie to my queue and Netflix said the same thing, release on 11/04. Weird.

Boy, that twist ending in Rock n' Roll Nightmare would have made M. Night Shyamalan jealous! The ludicrousness of this film is infinitely entertaining - I found myself chuckling after nearly every line of dialog, and the sub-Spinal Tap songs are priceless. Favorite moment? Jon Mikl Thor earnestly extolling the virtues of Toronto. The drummer's intermittent and inexplicable Australian accent was amusing as well. The version I chortled through was widescreen - was this film actually in theaters?

Awesome - glad you enjoyed the film. It really has to be experienced to be believed. All manner of logic says that it should be a terrible film, yet I'm mesmerized with each viewing (and there will be more). There's some pretty cool SFX - especially the scene where the bed sheet catches the girl trying to escape.

And Rock 'N Roll Nightmare is classic. I rejoiced when that film received the royal treatment on DVD. That level of quality + corniness doesn't pay off all that often, but it worked great for this movie. Deserves a big 'ol

I watched a film called Dead Heat last night at my father-in-law's suggestion. I consider myself well versed in Vincent Price and in zombie films as well as 80's horror comedies. I was a little surprised when I found there was a film that mixed all three that I hadn't seen. It's no masterpiece but it was a pleasant experience.

I'm also regretting that for a couple of days I was coasting to my personal goal of 200. Now that I'm past it I realize that I don't have a ton of hours left but I've got a lot of coffee. I'm going to crunch and put in as many films as possible. Luckily in my watched pile I found a few films I forgot to add to my list, I'll update it now and I doubt I'll post again until it's over other than to update my list. It's time to go Hardcore.

Dead Heat! Yes! I remember enjoying this movie when I was a kid. I can't remember a thing about it except it had Joe Piscopo in it. I'll have to get that for next year.

Edit: I just realized that I bought "Red Heat" a few years ago probably thinking it was "Dead Heat."

Edit2: Wow. I actually DO have this movie. I will be able to watch it for this challenge, then. I must have it classified as action instead of horror.
