Battlestar Galactica Season 4.0 1/6/2009 (includes Razor)

TVshowsondvd is reporting that Season 4.0 of Battlestar Galactica will be released on January 6th and will be a 4 disc set including the original and extended cuts of Razor.

http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/news/Bat...ason-4.0/10659

I'll probably sell off Razor in preparation for this.

I bought Razor separately knowing the possibility of it being included, but I'm disappointed they're not taking the opportunity to present an alternate cut. The commentary mentions how it was originally scripted in straight chronological order, with the current cut jumping around in time a bit (kinda like comparing the different cuts of the Godfather movies, where pt 2 originally is out of order, and the alternate version that has it in straight chronological.)

I'm waiting for a complete series set. I hate these half-season things.

Ditto on the almost-but-never-quite-bought-Razor sentiment. Hoping S4.5 airs soon after.

What's to learn? That people would buy it anyways because the show is like crack?

I put my money down, knowing it's expensive, but also knowing that maybe just maybe, I'm sending a message that people will buy stuff that's good, even if it isn't a Nielsons champ.

I held off on Razor in preparation for this. It was tough, but I stood my ground. Look's like it something I did actually paid off.

That really sucks Donkey Balls that Razor is included on this set.

I actually paid $19.99 for it when it was released last winter at Best Buy.

The bright side is my Best Buy copy has the bonus Making Of Razor documentary.

Really looking forward to this release. Looks like there is alot of great bonus material.

Doesn't look like this has the 'Phenomenon' special that aired before season four.

Crap, I wish I would've recorded that when it was on TV.

That could easily be retailer-specific bonus disc material.

Didn't the first 'Razor' DVD only include the alternate cut? Wouldn't the S4.0 set have some value if it includes the televised cut?

I don't mind in this instance mostly because of how the season is being shown (9 in 08', the rest in 09'). At this point I'd rather get the season split, then have to wait until near the end of next year for a full Season 4 set.

Glad I didn't pick up Razor when it was first released. Looking forward to picking up this set as I only caught about half the season 4 episodes.

Just one more FU from a studio. I hope everybody learned their lesson. Don't buy any single "special" release from any TV show in the future. You will just wind up getting it again in a future release set. This could have been a 3-disc set at a lower price, but now it's a 4-disc set to justify the higher price.

Don't fool yourselves into thinking this is some kind of bonus, or that this is some attempt to make things easier for people to watch the show, or anything else. It's just another case of "you want this? you have to buy that, too" packaging.

Are they allowed to do it? Of course, I'm not saying arguing anything against that. It's capitalism, and I support that. I also support the consumers' ability to learn from the past and support or not support in the future. I just hope the studios realize that as consumers smarten up, *they* will be paying for their money-grabs (through loss of future sales), not us. If all they want is money now, and they don't care about the future, they should absolutely keep doing what they're doing.

Personally, I think they should release every episode as its own special 1- or 2-disc release--except for the final one of the season. Then, release the 7-disc season set at a really high price. Clearly, that's the best way to go.

I picked up the mini-series from Wal-Mart during a sale in the early days of the new show. Then, I got Season 1 from Columbia House, only to find out that the mini-series was included. Then, I was a little angry over the second season being split up, but got a great deal on them, and then Razor, from Columbia House.

I'll pick up S3 and other things far in the future, used, when they're super-cheap. Universal won't be getting any more direct support from me for BSG.

FWIW, there was a release of S1 without the miniseries as a Best Buy exclusive (and without any special features), but it was out there.

And even though I bought the "complete" S1 set, I also picked up a copy of the miniseries disc because it had a bunch of deleted scenes that weren't carried over to the big box.

This is why I'm not buying any BSG material until the series is over and they release the complete series set. I was really disappointed that they didn't carry over all of the bells and whistles from the standalone version of the miniseries.

Of course, there's always the chance that the "complete series set" will just be a repackaging of all of existing sets...

But I'll probably wait until it comes out on Blu-ray, anyway.
