Possibly the best week of the year so far for me:-

(1) An American in Paris - The best thing Minnelli ever did.

(2) Bare Behind Bars

(3) British Cinema Classic B-Film Collection Volume One - Mostly getting it for the sublime Siege of Sidney Street, but the two Tod Slaughter films also hold huge interest.

(4) Busby Berkeley Collection Volume Two

(5) Charlie Chan Volume Five - Kudos to Fox for sticking with this and getting all of their Chans out on DVD.

(6) Exploitation Cinema: Cemetery Girls / Vampire Hookers - Like Zombie Strippers, you either have to own a film called Vampire Hookers or you have no interest in it. I want it now!

(7) Explotiation Cinema: Satan's Slave / Terror - Probably the two best films Norman Warren ever directed. I know a lot of people love Inseminoid, but Satan's Slave is just one of those films that could not be improved on. It didn't need a bigger budget, more well known stars, clearer photography. It just is what it is. A minor masterwork.


(8) Gigi - I love Maurice Chevalier in this.


(9) High School Flashback Collection - Could do with a few more extras (and some involvement from John Hughes), but I have to have this in the same way that a contemptible junkie needs heroin.)


(10) J'Accuse - Abel Gance. Maestro.


(11) The Man on the Eiffel Tower - Never seen this, but have very high hopes.


(12) Torchwood - Maybe, if the reviews are positive enough.



Looks like a baked beans and day old bread week - but it shall be worth it.

Nada. Maybe Class of 1999 if I can find it cheap. Fuck that Beetlejuice disc.

Well, I was going to get The Breakfast Club: Flashback Edition and Sixteen Candles: Flashback Edition, but I got those (along with Weird Science) in the High School Flashback Collection set.

That leaves Risky Business: SE, and MAYBE Beetlejuice: SE (although I am very disappointed that the only bonus features are episodes of the TV show; I was never a fan of the cartoon).
