No, they didn't rerelease them to match (like Sony did when they got the video rights to The Shield; although they DID crop the remaining seasons to 16X9). Season 5, I believe, has the same packaging as 4.

they are not cropped in anyway. The framing has been opened up as the show was shot in the 16x9 format. I personally like the move since i always thought it looked too crowded when it airs on FX.

You're right. I misspoke. It's opened up to 16X9.

It doesn't change the fact that the OAR (and the creator's preferred AR) is 1.33:1, and the new DVDs don't reflect that (and will likely continue that way if a Complete Series set, on either DVD or Blu-Ray, is released).

So, if you buy The Wire from Best Buy, does it come with the CD already? Or was it just select special marked packaging?

select specially marked packages at BB only.

so i bit and went to the buy for the wire set despite hating the type of packaging they used. my best buy only had one copy of the wire out (and like 100 of six feet under) and of course it was not the exclusive with the soundtrack. i was kind of pleasantly suprised with the packaging - its nicer than i thought it was going to be - HOWEVER my roomate bought DEADWOOD - thats how a complete series package is supposed to look.

I'm heavily considering blind-buying Deadwood at that price.

I'm sure this is common knowledge, but all HBO sets were 50% off at the two Best Buys I hit today.

Complete Deadwood was $75
Band of Brothers Blu-ray $38

Do it. It's a steal at that price. 36 hours of brilliance.

Re: The Wire and Deadwood Complete Series Sets

I posted this in another thread, but I figured it would probably be seen by more people if it was here too. The Wire has been repackaged, it is now 5 standard dvd cases in a different sized box. The old packaging sat horizontally, and I think that it might have been slightly smaller. But for anyone holding off on it due to the packaging issues, now's a good time to pick it up since it's on sale at Best Buy this week.
