I always thought the bright colors in the film were supposed to make it look unreal, more dream-like. I always felt that it added to the overall surreal atmosphere of the film.

Unfortunately I don't own all his films ...yet, so I'll spread out the ones I do have and probably go with a Carpenter marathon instead.

BTW, I noticed a substantial difference in the way IMDB and allmovie classify their genres:

The Dead Zone
IMDB - Drama | Fantasy | Horror | Mystery | Thriller
allmovie - Science Fiction | Supernatural Thriller

Black Cadillac
IMDB - Horror | Thriller

I have something even more blasphemous to comment on... I actually prefered this film on laserdisc. I myself love Suspiria, but I don't think the cheap SFX and coloring held up well with a cleaned-up transfer. Some things are better hidden or more effective in lower resolution.

DVD also killed the Friday the 13th series for me. Just not the same all cleaned up and pretty.

I don't really think it's overrated. Most people seem to either love or hate it. I happen to like the film quite a bit, but it's not something I find myself recommending to a lot of people, simply because it's so polarizing.

If you watch Suspiria, it's pretty much required to have a full surround setup cranked as loud as you can stand. The bigger the TV, the better, too. It's an aural-visual experience primarily. Took me several viewing to make actual sense of it. I prefer the picture as sharp as possible. 35mm is the best, but that version is always the cut R version. The film is so full of colors and textures.

I will say that the sound and music in the film are awesome. I had the DTS track blasting and it sounded great.

I also agree with Jeffy Pop, you either love or hate the film. I guess it's not that I hate it, it's just not my kind of horror flick.

Just finished Night of the Living Dead. Now that's a fucking awesome horror film.

Is there a definitive call on how far into the genre list a movie is listed as horror? For example, All Movie could list something as "Film" = Western, Horror - or - "Film" = Martial Arts, Comedy, Horror (lots of Asian vampire films are like this). As long as it is on the list, is it good?

quoted for truth. suspiria destroyed my expectations of what a horror film should be. it was my introduction to argento and to italian horror in general. it's clunkiness is part of it's charm and like you said it makes it all the more unsettling. the visuals are candy coated and the audio is spooky as hell. a masterpiece.

Not to add further posts after my own question above, but this is a great comment. My biggest testament to Suspiria is that images from the film sometimes pop into my head without warning, like remembering a favorite painting. I'm fond of the dog scene and of course that "it" scene.

I'm ahead of myself from last year by a few. I didn't hit 30 until October 8th last year, I hit 30 on October 6th this year. However I did take a break today, I started a new film at 11:55pm just enough time to include it for today. Ha ha!

I got all day off tomorrow, so I can watch movies all frickin' day!

I saw this movie last year for this challenge and was amazed by it, bought it shortly afterward. I just got a new TV and surround sound system, so I'm glad you said this. I'll wait for a day when no one is home (possibly tomorrow) and watch it then.

It's not as easy as I thought...

I didn't just start this challenge to watch 200 films (outside chance of 250) but I'm writing reviews of each as well.

I've written about 25,000 words in the last week alone. It's really taking a lot out of me but it's been a lot of a fun at the same time. I'm not taking the time to check for grammatical accuracy and after reading over some of my typing I've laughed at a moment or two of my own.

I don't know if I can keep this up, I'm really starting to miss sleep and commentaries and extra features, but I just want to say for anyone legitmately trying for high numbers, it's crazy.

Yay, finally got it to work! How did you get the videos to be smaller? Regardless, thanks, these were fun. I've never heard of some of these, but I want to see them al now.

Dick, to answer your question, as long as one of the genres of a movie is listed as horror, I don't think it matters. Really, as long as you consider a movie to be horror and as long as it's not Annie or something, I don't think people are going to call you out on it.

It is tough, especially if you are trying to dedicate actual watching time to the films. I know some people are driving around town watching on iPhones... which can definitely get your numbers up with portability. I'm trying to watch each film entirely from start to finish, with no distractions, in my home theatre. I may have to change my strategy up a bit. I need to watch more portable as well. Working full time with a family of 4.5 (.5 = dog) really is draining. I couldn't begin to put in quite as much as you, poster mayhem. Hat's off.

My youngest son watched three in a row with me on Sunday, and he was burned out. I've never seen him so exhausted!

I took out the bolding. Not my intension to "go there" at all. Sorry if the tone seemed hostel. Was referring to my own form of watching. I was attempting humor. Apparently I'm not good at that...

Just want to make it clear that I am not challenging anyone's viewing means. I just hadn't thought of watching on a portable device/laptop/iPhone before. When someone says "watch a movie" I automatically think movie-theatre or the like. Thanks to all of you, my watching horizons have been expanded! I've just never considered enjoying films on-the-go.

Sorry, Dick, I'm just overly sensitive to trying to keep this thread open. We were shut down for a spell last year due to people arguing about numbers, so I tend to go out of my way to try to prevent that from happening again.
