Walkabout and El Norte seem locks for December now. Also, according to Mulvaney emails posted on the Criterion forum, there are no plans to upgrade Great Expectations or Oliver Twist, which is unfortunate.

I'm in for Chungking Express though the extras look shallow.

So do we know what the roll out schedule for BR discs will be? Will we get to a point where Criterion is releasing SD and BR discs simultaneously?

If they had done red for the top background with white lettering and then a pink C for the Bottle Rocket cover it'd be about 900% better.

But I'll buy it and Chungking.

I didn't think The Thief Of Bagdad could have been topped for worst cover... guess I was wrong.

Criterion isn't doing these classics any favors with these atrocities.

Although Tony Rayns usually gives superbly detailed and thoughtful commentaries. The more I think about it, I'm probably going to hold off on Chungking Express and Bottle Rocket until I get a Blu-ray player, hopefully for Xmas.

The breakdown will be in favor of SDVD. At least for now as Criterion will be releasing plenty of budget discs, replicas of old releases, where extras are dropped (as well as the price).

Well, so much for an Eclipse set every month - that makes just seven for the year, unless the Rossellini documentaries come out in December.

Well, since Bottle Rocket finally got one, time to wait patiently for a Darjeeling Criterion.

The Blu-Ray releases cost the same price as the DVDs.

which is good, since I was fearing the prices would be alot more. Maybe the MSRP for 'Last Emperor' was an indication that not all the supplements would be included.

From May's Criterion newsletter:
Alongside our DVD and Blu-ray box sets of The Last Emperor, we’ll also be putting out the theatrical version as a stand-alone release in both formats, priced at $39.95.
Underline is mine. I assume that means a Blu-ray set of both cuts will be released eventually?

I am unsure why you are I think you misread what I posted. The breakdown refers to the number of SDVD releases vs. the number of BD releases for the foreseeable future, perhaps well into 2009...meaning that you will see a greater number of SDVD releases (with the Eclipse line considered) by Criterion compared to what they plan on producing on BR.

I don't think this should be news to anyone.

I just don't remember the news that the tv cut of the film would be exclusive to the standard DVD edition - it's kind of tacky to have to buy both the standard and bluray editions to have all the features.

Decisions, decisions. Should I double-dip on Bottle Rocket and Chungking Express.... And later with Walkabout.... My wallet says no, but my heart is tempted.

Hooray for Bottle Rocket. It's about time. That means The Darjeeling Limited is the only Anderson title not released in Criterion. And considering its poor treatment when it was initially released, I suspect it will get a Criterion release sometime in the future.

of course you may purchase anything you want (including criterion dvds) wherever you wish (including criterions website). i have no personal experience dealing with them, but im sure they are pretty solid.

otoh, criterions are generally available for cheaper elsewhere - check the bargains thread every once in a while and enjoy

You should wait - twice a year (June and November) Deep Discount and DVD Planet have 20% off sales, during which Chungking Express will probably be priced at $22.38 from DVD Planet.
