I actually enjoyed this movie. Shymalan has turned into something of a hack, and I absolutely HATED "Lady in the Water," so I had no expectations for this. I found the first 1/2 hour to be really creepy and provocative, and the movie was fast-paced and entertaining. It also had some hilariously awful dialogue and plotting, not to mention Wahlberg and Deschanel gave some really bad performances. A mixed bag that I might pick up if any retailers have a store exclusive.

I thought this was painfully boring and terribly written. I'm not even sure finding this in a $2 discount bin would get me to buy it. I was hoping for maybe an unrated cut, but I see that isn't happening.

Oh shit, I'd hate to see what he cut out because he thought it "wasn't good enough", especially after seeing what he left in.

Seriously, I'd venture to say that this is one of the worst made studio films I've ever seen in a theater. Technically, story wise, acting wise, etc...

Yeah I heard this film sucks, but I'm renting it anyways. There are worst ways to spend 90 minutes of my life.

As one (of the few) who has enjoyed all of M Night's films since "Sixth Sense" (haven't seen the two that came before it), I was disappointed that I didn't make it to see this one in the theater. Hopefully, I'll be in the minority once again and enjoy it as well when it comes on DVD.

I liked this movie (aside from some awful dialogue), it was so much more entertaining than "The Village" or "Lady in the Water."

DeanoBKN 08-11-08 06:09 PM

I'll give it a rent, just to see how bad it really was. Who knows, maybe I'll enjoy it.

so bad its hilarious ala troll 2 :)

I like to refer to this film as "The Crappening".

When I looked at the title of this thread, I thought it would be this movie:

Well that's silly of you.

I still think M. Night asked his actors to INTENTIONALLY give bad readings of their lines. One bad performance in a movie is bad acting...but when ALL of the performances are cornball (especially from decent, if not great, actors), it had to have been intended that way.

I think this is a good "bad movie". The kind deserving of an MST3K commentary.

Of course, that doesn't mean I'm forking over $20 to own it. :)

That is where you are wrong my friend.

I'm thinking you meant, "if not great", to mean that no actor in the film is anywhere close to great (outside of this film), and not that any of them might be considered so.

Definitely with you on the rifftrax or CT version of this someday. And I'll end up buying the regular release (for $5 or less) just for the comedy value.

Yeah, that's what I meant - poorly worded.

One of the best movies of the year, after The Dark Knight...
Looking forward to seeing it again on DVD.

Rental for me.

DeputyDave 08-12-08 06:15 PM

I still keep hoping M Night will recapture the magic for me, it looks like its not happening here (no pun). I had high hopes but missed it in the theater.

Its a rental.
