Iron Man / Indiana Jones IV Collectible DVD News

From Home Media Retailing:

Best Buy Plans 'Iron Man,' 'Indiana Jones' Exclusives
Author: JOHN LATCHEM
Posted: July 28, 2008

Best Buy already is preparing exclusive DVD gift sets for two of the year’s biggest films: Iron Man and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, both from Paramount Home Entertainment.

Official release dates have yet to be announced, but each set will include a special-edition DVD and a statuette based on the film designed by Sideshow Collectibles, which was promoting the exclusives at its booth at San Diego Comic-Con International 2008. The sets can be preordered at bestbuy.com/giftsetpresell for $49.99 each.

The Iron Man package includes a mini-bust of Iron Man and a $50 gift card to SideshowCollectibles.com. Indiana Jones will include a mini crystal skull replica and a $25 Sideshow online gift card.

I am in for the Iron Man. The only way I will buy the Indy dvd is if it has the monkey swinging from vines scene extended by 15 minutes.

Anybody know if these are 2-disc editions or single disc? If they're 2-disc, I'll pre-order both.

Is the Blu-ray coming out with any exclusive sets?

I'm trying to justify buying a PS3 this year and it wll be lot easier if Iron Man, Indy4, Wall-E, and Dark Knight have some worthy exclusives with Blu-ray.

If not, I guess I will wait until I get a HDTV (hopefully next year), and just enjoy the exclusives with the DVD sets until then.

is that what it is actually referred to as? a "mom pack", that side-by-side packaging that walmarts do?

and why do they do this exactly? as it is horrible for shelving imho. id appreciate anyone who has a clue, as it bugs me. a lot.

Another curious if BD will be included as an option for the sets. Anybody?

Have they had the Sideshow collectibles gift card before? If it's a straight $50 gift card, then that pays for itself. If it's "$50 off an order of $250" or something like that, then I'd think a bit more.

from my limited experience with sideshow, they do not normally have giftcards or coupons like "$50 off $250". this may be an exception, but id think not.

but again, from my experience, most of these sideshow giftcards are generally good only for the older stuff (that isnt sold out and is less desirable). from the site:

"Gift Cards are redeemable on select Sideshow in-stock / back-ordered merchandise only. For your convenience, a list of the select in-stock items available for purchase with your new Gift Card can be found at the right of this page. Gift Cards are not valid on product(s) in pre-order status at the time of order or on wait list reservations."

still, if there is something that you want within that list, this deal rocks

What is scary is that if you pre-order it at bestbuy.com and not instore pickup...

99% chance your giftset will be a damaged boxset (since bestbuy.com ship it in a bubblepack envelope)

Well I'm not here to debate the 'blu-ray' vs 'dvd' debate, but there's a huge difference. Especially a movie like Indiana Jones IV would greatly benefit from it.

I'm saving so much $ by not buying exclusives because the studios (mostly) don't bother putting out BR versions.

No exclusives, no reason to rush out and buy something right away. I can always wait for a DD sale or something.

Maybe with all I'm saving I can pick up a real Iron Man bust :
