Criterion to release The Shooting & Ride in the Whirlwind

From criterionforum.org:

I attended a Monte Hellman triple feature at the Alamo Drafthouse in Austin last night, which had Monte Hellman in attendance. He told me Criterion would be releasing "The Shooting" & "Ride In The Whirlwind." Unfortunately he said "China 9 Liberty 37" is remaining unavailable as far as he can see due to rights issues.
Looks like the number of Westerns in the Criterion collection is going to double! This is wonderful news - those OOP VCI editions go for a pretty penny on Amazon. I'm hoping Criterion will port over the Hellman commentaries and provide new extras as well. Too bad about China 9 Liberty 37 though - I've seen a few horrendous looking editions floating around, and it would have been nice to get a nice transfer at least.

Somebody pointed out to me just now that this movie poster, available for sale from Criterion's website, seems to hint that a release of Godard's Vivre sa Vie is probably forthcoming (it looks suspiciously like a DVD cover and reminiscent to Pierrot le Fou):

Awesome. Time to sell the VCI editions.

Vivre sa vie is controlled by Janus now. It's guaranteed a Criterion release at some point down the line.

Wow. Pretty cool. Jack Nicholson is what got me to see both films and both were very good. Got rid of both as they were, IMO, atrocious in picture quality, but will seriously think about getting the Criterions.

Now they just need to release Hellman's Cockfighter, and all will be right with the world.

I LOVE Two-Lane Blacktop, gotta see all three of those. Nicholson is the man, and Warren Oates might possibly one of the most badass actors who ever lived. Two words: Alfredo Garcia.

Wasn't too impressed with Ride/Whirlwind, but I've never seen Shooting yet. I'm really surprised at the Criterion-embracing for Hellman lately!

Great news!

I'm hoping for January 09, that seems like the earliest it would get a release. One of my favorite Godard films - would love to see this, Two or Three Things I Know About Her, and a revamped Alphaville that month.
