Is 'The Brown Bunny' superbit DVD misframed?
I've got a significant horizontal black bar on just the right side, and the picture right to the edge on the left - it's just not centered. I had a similar (though not as extreme) issue with 'Barton Fink', but I haven't noticed it on any other discs. (possibly because "wider" films are being cut off on the left side?) Even when switching the aspect to "4:3", it looks like it's pushed a little to the left.
Anybody else with this disc notice this? Just an odd misframing or is my TV possibly screwed up? (Shifting the picture to the right is easy enough on a computer screen, but I'm not sure how to do it on a plasma) |
Both Brown Bunny and Barton Fink have a 1.66:1 aspect ratio, and should have small black bars on the sides. It sounds like your TV has more overscan on one side than the other, so you don't see one of the bars.

With some Googling, you can probably figure out how to get into your TV's service menu on your own, but be warned that you void your warranty by doing so. It's also very easy to alter something you don't want to alter in there, which may make your set unwatchable. If you try it, be sure to slowly and patiently write down every single default setting in the entire service menu before attempting to change anything. But, like I said, it's better to let a professional do it for you. |

Well, there's a lot more 1.78:1 discs out there than 1:66:1 so, for now, I guess I'll just live with it. Thanks, though. :) |
