No time/chapter display on some dvds?

I was watching "They Call Me Mister Tibbs!" and noticed that there is nothing displayed on my player while the movie is playing; no time, no chapter indicator, nothing, just all dashes... --- --:--:--

I've tried it on two different players, haven't tried the pc yet. Does anyone know of this kind of issue? Anyone have "Mister Tibbs" and can see if it works in their player?

Is this a issue that happens on some other dvds? Titles?

Thanks!

I am not sure on all cases, but I know that David Lynch hates chapter stops. His movie The Straight Story, there is an insert that says how Lynch thinks the film should be viewed as a whole and not in chapters.
I was watching Sharkwater on bluray the other night and noticed that it did not have the time and chapter....

^Lynch dvds are not an issue. His movies are one chapter (1) and the whole movie also displays the running time.

Sharkwater BD appears to have the same issue as me though.

It happens. I've noticed not all DVDs have the time or chapters on there. Surprises me that it would be on a release like They Call Me Mister Tibbs though.

I have a 1998 release of Escape From Sobibor which did not have any time listing on any player. It had chapters though.

That's kind of arrogant of him. I remember him bitching about movies being seen on an ipod, it was pretty funny. So, does this mean, if you were watching "The Straight Story" you couldn't stop the DVD or it would go back to the beginning?
