I just saw this on amazon, had anyone heard of a re-release coming out? I hope there are decent special features...

Well I already own the From Crystal Lake to Manhattan box set that came out a few years ago and that was a pretty solid collection already. The documentary on that set covered each film in tremendous detail, so the only thing I can think of that Part 1 was lacking was a commentary.

i think the part I's to date in R1 are still lacking the uncut edition.

It's probably one of the Paramount/VH1 releases that are all decked out with "I Love the 80s" stuff on the artwork. There are a ton of them coming down the pike.

It lists the wrong aspect ratio.

rednowgreen 07-12-08 04:16 PM

It's just a lenticular, Event Horizon, Pet Sematary, Red Eye, Sleepy Hollow, The Ring, What Lies Beneath, and Zodiac will also be getting lenticulars as well

mzupeman2 07-12-08 07:20 PM

They do this a lot for movies. If there's any significant improvement on a title coming out, or even just a new edition, a thread most likely would be here for it. Friday the 13th has pretty much seen the best treatment it's going to get on standard DVD. They did this earlier in the year with Child's Play... giving it a lenticular cover. Same old crappy release, but just a new lenticular cover. And unless they change it up, I thought I saw somewhere the new special edition out in September is supposed to have the same cover... that'll sure be confusing.

Anyone who is region free should really pick up the UK WB disc - it's uncut and includes a commentary track with Sean Cunningham,Harry Manfredini, Adrienne King, Betsy Palmer and writer Victor Miller, as well as a featurette. Also, it's only £5.97 right now from Amazon.co.uk, which is 57% off. Link

Better yet, get the HK region 3 version...it's NTSC with the same features.

eiker_ir 07-12-08 11:37 PM

Jason's mask is on the cover

I know, what the hell? It's not even in that movie.

DeanoBKN 07-13-08 12:52 AM

Jason's mask on the cover, are you kidding me? That's like putting Michael Myers mask on Halloween 3.

Mountain Biker 07-13-08 01:22 AM

Wow, what a misleaading and sucky cover.

The Monkees 07-13-08 03:00 PM

Yep, just a lenticular cover and I said the same thing about his mask being on the cover of the first film. If anything that should be the cover for part 3 not part 1. What's next? Mrs. Voorhees on the cover of part 6?

actually no, unlike the UK version, there isn't a commentary track...

anyone heard the commentary track?- I might have to buy the UK edition.

Lastdaysofrain 07-14-08 12:54 PM

I'm fairly certain it's not a propper commentary track, it's an edited together track from existing interviews.

That is correct. The commentary is mostly the interviews from the 20 minute featurette and I didn't get past the first 10-15 minutes anyway because it was a terrible non-scene specific commentary.

NoirFan 07-14-08 02:04 PM

Still, it's probably your only chance to see the film uncut on dvd. If you're a die hard fan, it's certainly worth the twelve bucks or so.

I agree, since it seems highly unlikely that Warner Bros. will give rights to the international uncut version.

hotsexyboi 07-14-08 02:21 PM

I'm NOT getting this! Its just a re-release with a slip cover but still the same dvd. They need to give the US a uncut edition!!!..I WANT IT! LOL

TheDuke 07-14-08 11:31 PM

Well damn, sorry to get everyone's hopes up. :(
