Mystery Science Theater 3000 20th Anniversary Set

http://tvshowsondvd.com/news/Mystery...iversary/10032

Did not want to post this under the Mike Nelson selling commentaries thread, so I started a new one. Looks like a tin!! I am half expecting this to feature the 20th Anniversary convention panel that is coming up. Shout Factory and Joel have both made comments about LOTS of special features being featured.

This release reminds me I need to buy Volume 11 and 12 of Rhino's sets before they go OOP.

drainout 07-11-08 12:45 AM

Thankfully I have all the earlier sets, waited to long for Beginning of the End, but my wife hooked me up for Christmas one year.

20 years? Dear God I feel old.

Again.

Yeah, really. I remember not even having Comedy Central offered in my area yet and having to watch it at a friend's.

Some interesting info about what might be released on this set (from mst3kinfo.com).

Shout! Factory Whoopsie
By Erhardt

Apparently some early promotional material released by Shout! Factory for the Mystery Science Theater 3000: 20th Anniversary Edition DVD box set has “Laserblast” and “Werewolf” listed as two of the episodes that will be included. But this may not be the case. Here is Shout!’s official response to our inquiry:

"Unfortunately, Laserblast and Werewolf were accidentally included in temp copy for Shout! Factory’s 2008 catalog, which was sent out to the printer prior to any titles being licensed. In addition, our team was licensing enough titles for not only the 20th Anniversary Edition, but our second release coming early next year at the same time. The four films that will be included in our 20th Anniversary Edition will be officially announced during our special reunion panel at San Diego’s Comic-Con International later this month."

I guess we’ll just have to wait a couple more weeks to know exactly what the titles are. Stay tuned!
So it sounds like Werewolf and/or Laserblast could possibly be on this set. Since they're playing up the "20th Anniversary" angle, I'd say Laserblast is pretty strong possibility for this set.

Hopefully there aren't any repeats from the first 12 volumes or all the single releases.

sb5 07-11-08 12:49 PM

Shout has said that these will all be new to DVD with no Rhino repeats.

Oh...oh, it's beautiful. :D

I am still in love with the idea of lots of extras. A sweet total history documentary would be nice. Maybe the This Is MST3K special, some of the shorts (Assignment: Venezuela) Some key episodes (Mitchel, Laserblast, Danger Diabolik, early KTMA, etc.)

Also, not that the casing looks pretty large, could just be the image, but I would like to see some extras as far as books, stickers, etc.

RyoHazuki 07-11-08 02:45 PM

I'm gonna take the Earth hostage if Zombie Nightmare isn't on this set.

tylergfoster 07-11-08 07:38 PM

That artwork is goddamn classy. Go Shout! Factory.

onebyone 07-11-08 08:39 PM

The art looks just wonderful. If that is indicative of what is to come with the catalog, we are in for a treat.

darkside 07-11-08 09:28 PM

I love the look of the 20th anniversary set. I'm glad Shout factory took over the series. I have everything released so far including the offshoot Film Crew and Cinematic Titanic DVDs so buying this is a must.

20 years though. Damn.

TomOpus 07-11-08 09:33 PM

There's a good chance I'll be at the Comic-Con panel when they make the big announcement. I'll post the titles of the set once I get home... unless someone beats me to it :)

blueberrytree 07-12-08 11:24 AM

Am I mistaken, or was Laserblast already available?

Otherwise, this looks like a fun set. Can't wait.

You are mistaken, sir. It is one of the fans' most requested, and it seems like the folks at Shout! Factory really enjoy it and want to release it.

Zenigata 07-12-08 12:16 PM

Great box art, nice change of pace from Rhino's kitschy fare

chriscooling 07-12-08 12:29 PM

Wow. Pre-ordered.

milo bloom 07-12-08 06:51 PM

Hate to be the voice of dissent, but the box looks bland and the MSRP is $20 more than any of the Rhino boxes were. I really don't know what kind of extras would make the extra cost worth it either, I barely have time to watch the main features as it is. I hope they really make it worth it.

TomOpus 07-12-08 06:56 PM

It's supposed to be the 4 non-released movies most requested by fans. I think it'll be worth it.

DVDTalker002 07-13-08 02:29 AM

This is Gay.... Release at least 10 episodes at a time... Jesus this is getting old.

Boba Fett 07-13-08 02:53 AM

I hope The Final Sacrifice is one of the films.

The world needs Rowsdower on DVD.
