this is very good news.

not if you've already seen the specials :(

If this release has multiple store exclusives, will it become the best selling DVD of all time?

 for TrueHD

I actually didn't care for Batman Unmasked, as it seemed awfully plain and basic when I watched it before Dark Knight came out. It would have been nicer to get some more deeper stuff, but maybe that's just me :p

Prolly.

If there's enough idiots like me to buy all of them, including those in other countries, probably.

Anyone else a little underwhelmed by the presumed features? I'm worried about this disc for a couple of reasons. One is that WB is notorious for giving SD buyers a shitty transfer, most likely to get us to upgrade to Blu. Secondly, those features sound like they could fit on one disc. I was expecting quite a lot more for the #2 biggest film of all-time. This reeks of double dip.

it's inevitable, but Warner's needs a quick kick to the nuts if they do.

I am underwhelmed as well. Of course I was expecting to be since I found the special features for Batman Begins (2-disk DE) to be very underwhelming.
$500+ million in the US alone and we still cant get a freakin' commentary on a new release. Those bastards.

The documentaries, at least for Batman Unmasked that I know of, were hour long specials so they're not exactly short worthless clips or anything so i'd hardly say they would fit on a single disc.

Kory 09-24-08 04:00 PM

That announcement says "a few special features have been announced." That definitely leaves the possibility that those aren't the only ones.

islandclaws 09-24-08 04:31 PM

I hope you're right. I was expecting some more bonus material focusing on Heath Ledger and his interpretation of the Joker. I suppose I should wait to say anything at all until after the official specs are announced, though.

Yeah, especially when the movie itself is 2 and a half hours.

Artwork now available at The Digital Bits and DVDActive for the R1 single-disc DVD, 2-disc Special Edition, Blu-ray, and Blu-ray Limited Edition.

Definitely getting the 2-disc, but would have preferred more iconic imagery for the slip cover. Just a minor quibble, though. Going to be amazing to finally add this to my collection. Really hope the extras are worthy of the scope of the movie.

This does look like a disappointing release. Oh well. Still I'll be in for the 2-disk of course considering the movie was great.

tylergfoster 09-27-08 03:58 PM

I really doubt Christopher Nolan wasn't asked to do a commentary. If he opted out, then he opted out. Not every director wants to do them.

kefrank 09-27-08 04:24 PM

i'm surprised that people are disappointed with the announced features. is it just the lack of commentary? to me, this looks pretty packed.

islandclaws 09-27-08 04:49 PM

^ I would have liked some more in-depth features on Ledger as The Joker. I just think it's fairly obvious this will be double dipped. The features don't add up for a film of this size.

Matthew Ackerly 09-27-08 07:07 PM

Where are the deleted scenes?

Wasn't Nolan's first cut over 3 hours?

Not sure about that one. I remember reading that Nolan said anything that was taken out amounted to little snippets or lines, nothing major. He also said whatever he cut was cut for a reason and, therefore, doesn't need to be seen. I'm not really surprised there aren't deleted scenes.

My Other Self 09-27-08 07:58 PM

Yeah I wasn't expecting deleted scenes. A gag reel would have been nice. I always like those.

The gag reel would simply consist of Nicky Katt yelling nonsense for twenty minutes.

Side note: The artwork? Atrocious.

Really? Same as the movie posters, and I think they're great.

i would've preferred if they had used some of the other posters, like either the one with batman in front of the building with the explosions in the form of a bat or even the one where joker's face is obscured and u can read the scrawl "why so serious?" not a huge fan of chosen covers either.
