Obviously, the Kansas song can't be very expensive these days if all those other shows have been using it.
The director would've had to sign off on it, right?

The original version, Winkler exhales, the intro to the song begins -
"Carry on my Wayward Son
There'll be peace when you are done"
Sally Field says "You're okay."
"Lay your weary head to rest
Don't you Cry No More"
The guitar riff is edited out as they cut to long shot - "Once I rose above...
Pull back on the line -"I was soaring ever higher..."
Credits begins as- "Though me eyes could see...

Thanks all for pointing out that the YouTube version is not in fact the original ending.
I asked the film's director about the DVD and he said that he had no input on the song replacement and he too was disappointed that the song was dumped.

I did an IMDB and he's had an interesting career.
I'm going to ask one more time for people to write Universal at the following link to voice their displeasure.

Is there a thread for movies with replaced hit songs?

Just emailed Universal Home Video. Hope it sheds some light for them that the core audience for this film - the people who would have bought this on release day - are not going to settle for second best.
They did this same thing for the first release of "Sixteen Candles", but when it was re-released in 16x9 and 5.1 they DID restore the original soundtrack completely. So there is some hope...
BTW, I DVR'd "Heroes" off of the Sundance channel, and I was shocked to see the version they showed also did not include the song at the end. Especially now knowing that AMC has shown the film with the proper ending music in tact...but that channel sucks regardless, simply because they edit content, and have commercial interruption. No one wants that. Seems the only movie loving channel out there is Turner Classic Movies.

Re: Heroes - Henry Winkler Song Replaced?
The Kansas song was in the original and Henry wrote me some time back saying something about legal problems so the song was removed. I agree that it isn't the same without that song but there is nothing we can do about that apparently. Darn...
Take care,

I'm trying to find out if Kansas' Carry On Wayward Son was licensed or replaced on the DVD release of Heroes with Henry Winkler, Sally Field & Harrison Ford released today 6/24. It is played over the final seconds & end credits of the film. The VHS release it was replaced. I don't want to purchase it if it has been replaced.

You're right. The you tube is a fake. They have the cues all wrong.

Two bumps of an old thread, both by new members with somewhat relevant replies to the quite irrelevant topic. What the heck brought you to this thread?

A Google search? If you search on older DVDs, an old DVDTalk thread often pops up on the first page. Many of the other DVD forums have been buried since they have either fallen by the wayside or see little traffic these days.

Re: Heroes - Henry Winkler Song Replaced?
Well, years after this thread started, a couple of the original tv-spots have been uploaded onto youtube, both prominently featuring the song as was discussed prior:

Re: Heroes - Henry Winkler Song Replaced?
That's the movie where Henry Winkler races the car on the dirt track right? I saw it way back in the day on cable I think, and remember it being a decent movie. But all I really remember is the orange car (a Camaro I think).
