I am a big fan of the show and own the yearbook, but I don't get the frustration here. I'm not exactly happy about it, but why the anger? Is it because, at some point, you plan/hope to sell the dvd set and you feel this diminishes the value now?

Other than that, I'm confused as to why one would care enough to give a crap.

I can understand why people are angry. I mean, did you read the letter? The show's creators promised fans (who, when it was released were probably still somewhat stung by the cancellation of the show, even though it was years later) that this was something unique and special and that it would be a real piece of memorabilia, something that others couldn't get.

And now it's theoretically being mass-produced.

I can think of a lot of reasons to get upset about something but a reprint of a dvd set is not one of them.

I can understand being a little pissed. I was one of those who bought the "Definitive" Star Wars Trilogy on laserdisc. Paid over $200 and now we find out it was NOT so definitive.

Those who don't understand why others are upset probably just don't have the "collector mentality". People paid a pretty penny for something unique. Now, it's not so unique.... and cheaper.

I could understand if this came out at an $80 price point, but this is essentially the same price so all those that bought it before should be glad the set has held it's value. Assuming you are a fan, you aren't going to sell it, so that perceived "ebay value" shouldn't exist anyway.

At any rate, I'd have to point out that not everyone has $120 bones to drop on one set at the drop of a hat so a rerelease is a great chance for those that missed out. Isn't the point to draw in more fans of this great series anyway? Quitcherbitchin'. ;)

Because a company rereleasing a dvd set again is a much bigger deal than the entire state of Iowa being wiped out by a flood or 70,000 people dying in the China quake.

For the record, I own the original year book, and I really don't see how a rerelease hurts me. They released it, I bought it, they're releasing it again, so what?

I loved the show when it was first aired, but when the DVD came out, I really couldn't justify spending $120 on it. I was actually thinking about purchasing the current set a few days ago, and was also regretting letting that opportunity to buy the yearbook edition slip away... So I'm glad with this news. My DVD purchasing habits have changed, and I'm more willing to plop down cash, but still... $120 is still a lot of money for a single season of a show. :D

And the people that got the original release will always know they have the original. That in and of itself, for a collector and enthusiast, should be worth something. If this does end up getting released and I get it (which I suspect I will), I will be bothered by the fact that I don't have the original release.

So, I guess the question for those of us who weren't sure the first time around. Are those two extra discs worth all the extra bones?

Depends on the individual. If you ate up all the behind the scenes stuff from the 4 disc Lord of the Rings sets, then it'd probably be worth it for you. And the yearbook is very well done, a spot-on recreation of a real one, down to the students signing it (in character) on the inside cover flaps.

That said, as much as I like it, I kind of wish I also had the regular version so I could fit it on the shelf with the rest of my box sets. There's no way you'll be able to store the yearbook in the same place as your other DVDs.

For anyone who's interested...Entertainment Weekly's new magazine placed F&G as the 13th best show over the past 25 years (they term it a list of "The New Classic" television shows).

Yeah, that logic doesn't make any sense at all because he's still going to be purchasing a copy from the company, so it's still going to count as one more sale. The only person he'll be fucking over is the person he sells it to on eBay.

I've got my pre-order at Amazon, not sure if I'll actually buy it but I'm interested to see if any more info is released as far as how many are being printed and if the $120 price will stick now that at least 1 retailer has it.

Correct. Just like everyone else does when an OOP DVD becomes announced with a new version but the OOP still has high value. They resell it on eBay quickly (to a fan!) for a high price and then buy the new release. Nothing new.

I don't mind taking the occasional mega-conglomerate for a bath. I don't screw over other movie and TV fans.

Not "everybody else" - just those who view their DVD collections for the "value" and "how much they can make" rather than something they bought because they knew or thought they would enjoy it.

I don't get the negativity in this thread, if one is a fan of the show and already has this, why does one care if it is rereleased so other fans of the show can get it? Now, if this had something the earlier release didn't have, I'd be pissed if I'd bought the earlier release.

I, like others, missed out on this the first time and won't pay the prices to eBay hacks for it.

Clearly you don't read this forum that much. Many times when a new DVD is announced several people will go "Awesome! Just listed my OOP version on eBay with a BuyItNow of $xx.xx and it sold right away! Sweet!".

This has happened many, many times. I hardly think ethics really plays into this. Its rare and worth something. Its be re-released with more stuff (and in the case of other DVDs, better picture/sound). Why the hell would I wait for it to come out and then sell it? Why not sell it now when there is a demand for it? Its not my problem that others are not as up-to-date on DVD news as I am. Just as I don't feel bad for people that buy iPods 15days before a keynote. Or people that buy any type of electronics when a new one is around the corner.

This on the other hand appears to be the same exact set. So you aren't upgrading, you are just dicking over another fan of the show for a quick buck.

I don't care. If its being re-released, with the exact same things, if I can sell mine for $250-$300 now, I will. Its obvious Shout Factory, Judd Apatow and Paul Fieg could careless about their fans by re-releasing what was suppose to be limited to a certain amount of copies for fans that supported the show from Day 1, so why should I care?

Hell at this point its a rumor with a listing on Amazon and it may never even come out.
