Wohwohwoh! NEVER! My DVDs cannot be trusted in anyone's hands but my own.
1. I hate seeing an empty space where a DVD should be for weeks until I finally get my DVD back (if I get it back).
2. A single minor scratch would lead to immediate death and I'm not looking to kill friends and family.

Re: Post pics of your DVD collection and HT, Part 12
I have a few friends who "rent" a movie or two every single time they're over. The case thing bothers me too, so I lend them out in cd cases or sleeves. If a case is lent out it throws my whole organizational process out of whack. Plus, when it's a cardboard or "digipack" case like Boogie Nights or Pulp Fiction, I would NEVER lend that out. So far I haven't had any problems with discs being damaged, the friends I lend them too are really good about that.

Added a new shelf to hold my "over sized" DVDs that cannot fit on my shelves.
This is all four walls of my "libary" (as I like to call it).
Pic 1: Wall 1: DVDs alphabetically
Pic 2: Wall 2: VHS / Over sized DVDs
Pic 3: Wall 2: DVDs alphabetically continued
Pic 3: Wall 3: DVDs alphabetically continued
Pic 4: Wall 4: DVDs alphabetically continued / CD-DVD Combo / HD-DVDs/ Blu-Rays / Wife's Collection (last shorter shelf).

Re: Post pics of your DVD collection and HT, Part 12
Heh... Its a pretty sad site. I just bought a condo and I'm getting married next year. So DVDs I can still buy since I buy them so cheap but a home theater will have to wait until after the wedding. However I'm lucky enough to have a wife that agrees with me that we need a new gigantic HD home theater. And she is willing to go half. So right now its just two flat screen standard TVs that we had in our bedrooms when we still lived with our parents. Yea... I know... It sucks... Its funny though. I still remember my friends being jealous that I had a flat screen standard TV years go when I bought it. Hahaha. Now they all have HD TVs and I'm jealous of them.

I keep track of my collection on DVD Aficionado. According to the site tracker we have 662 titles on 636 DVDs with a total of 840 discs (special editions and bonus discs etc.). Not the greatest setup, but we just moved. We picked up the tv last year for $500 and I've had the shelves for years. All titles are alphabetical except seasons, which are on the third shelf, third row down. Few doubles from combining our collections and video games are on the bottom 2 rows. Oh yeah, these pics are from the cell phone, sorry for that.
Shot of collection and TV.
Movies along the wall
Shelf 1 (2 Fast 2 Furious - Hoosiers)
Shelf 2 (Hostel - Sunset Boulevard)
Shelf 3 (SuperMan: The Movie 4 disc - Zoolander then seasons and games)

In terms of how big a collection should be, I think your size is one of the more practical sizes a person should have, relative to the average person's free time he would have to watch all his DVD's.

Holy Blu-ray Batman! Nice collection....also like the shelves.
Always nice to see Voltron get represented in peoples collections. One of my favorite parts of my collection.

That person must be pretty cashed up to put together such a large Blu collection when you consider how long it has been around. When I see large DVD collections I always think that they have been bought slowly over fifteen years.

marcellusk, VERY nice collection. That is an insane amount of Blu-rays. But as a fellow owner of the same Billy shelves... those shelves would drive me freaking insane. How do you live with them like that?
I mean seriously, you have one of the nicest blu collections I've ever seen (you must have dropped 15 grand on it) and your shelves are so poorly put together? You make me want to cry. I wasn't aware I had OCD until now.

The 3rd set of shelves (to the right) are put in backwards.
The top of the shelf is installed backwards (hence the wood/cork showing) as is the 4th shelf (which on the Billy Bookcase is non-adjustable). The bottom is also put on backwards like the top (obviously, non-adjustable).
The 2nd set of shelves has the 4th and bottom non-adjustable in backwards as well. Look at the first set of shelves, which are put together correctly, and then look at the other two.
Either way, it's everyone's own personal collection so however they have their stuff setup is up to them.
Great collection marcellusk!

I can't compete with that, but here's my lowly setup. It's not really focused on displaying anything, just on storage.
These shelves, which were discussed a page or two back, I got from Best Buy for 50 or 60 each on sale. Pretty easy to put together, pretty stable, and adjustable shelves (except for the middle one). I like them.
I'm sort of self limiting my collection to take up no more space than these two units.
I try to have everything alphabetical unless the package size doesn't allow.
A through L (the big gap on the first column is the Buffy chosen collection, it's on the bar because I'm watching it, second column gap is Farscape complete, hasn't made it there yet.)
L through Z
The stuff that plays them and shows them, and the sofa in the reflection
PS2 and Wii games, and plastic instruments
360 games and accessories (Gamecube controller for Wii, extra headsets, etc) (yes I need to do something else with this)
And here's the octopus garden that makes it all go. Removing everything from this room to lay down laminate flooring - and putting it all back so it all worked - sucked.

I need to check out that Harold Llloyd Set. I keep seeing it over and over in these threads.
