Seriously, nice job Trevor! Hopefully the sci-fi challenge was somewhat helpful in getting you through your difficult time.

I agree... and now to go off and watch something completely different ... 'Puppetry of the Penis'

Giles 08-01-08 11:03 PM

I was on a roll with Red Dwarf, but ran out of time.

RobCA 08-01-08 11:12 PM

WTG, Trevor!

I would have been able to watch a lot more, but we've had family out here visiting for about the past 10 days, and it really cut into my DVD watching.

Rob

excuses, excuses ;)

shit, I had other obligations as well, seeing 7 plays at the DC Capital Fringe Festival and the 2hr and 45min 'Lion King' at the Kennedy Center - what always surprises me is how dedicated people are to these challenges, I try but ugh.... at my age, I'm beginning to cherish my sleep more and more, as well as losing a good twenty pounds - I don't eat crap food, but an exercise regiment is a definite priority. - oh well, there's the Horror Challenge in October :D

Numes 08-01-08 11:51 PM

My secret goal was 100 (I made 76.) I had something going on I think every weekend but one...I even had a few days where I didn't count anything. With the Cubs on the road, there were a lot of night games, so I lose at least 2 hours to watch them (Gasp...Yes, my Cubbies take precedence over DVDs!) If I would have had the weekends, I could have snuck in 100.

Ashamed to admit that I've never seen any Farscape. Always meant to get season 1 and give it a try, since I obviously like sci-fi, but haven't gotten around to it yet. Like Fantastic Four fairly well, own all the recent movies and most of the cartoons.

And since we're asking random questions, which ST, Original or TNG?

What surprises me is how my 7-8 hours per day wouldn't even make the top ten in the horror challenge. We have dedicated horror fans at this site.

Speaking of sleep, I think I've trained my body to get less sleep. I didn't get more than 6 hours any night in July, and usually I love to get 8-9, at least a few days a week. And in the two nights since the challenge ended, I can't sleep more than 5-6 hours. I don't think this is a good thing....

caligulathegod 08-02-08 07:59 AM

My original goal was 31, so I passed it. I was on pace for 70 early on, but I wasn't able to keep it up. I was too busy to watch any at work, plus with Sci Fi I wanted to watch them on my good TV rather than on my computer. Plus with the movies so long compared to Horror, it was harder to get one in before I fell asleep in the morning when I get home from working nights. It was definitely fun. Anyway, I'll have more comments when I collect my thoughts.

Get back on schedule as soon as you can. I get about 5 a night (kids/early work) and when the weekends come around I can't get any extra, no matter how tired I feel.

I envy your Sci-Fi watching skills, I struggled to almost reach 40 this month (and it was sadly mostly TV).

Since the only one I ever really watch, due to being forced to at my job, was TNG, I'll have to go with that.

New or old Dr. Who?

lisadoris 08-02-08 03:10 PM

Fun challenge. I never believed for one second I would reach 100 but somehow I managed. For the next few days I'm going to watch everything BUT sci-fi just to shake things up a bit.

I prefer DS9 and TNG to TOS and I haven't watched any Dr. Who FWIW

Trevor 08-02-08 03:13 PM

TOS by far (largely for nostalgia possibly), then TNG/DS9 pretty much tied.

Never seen any Dr Who.

Numes 08-02-08 04:38 PM

Yesterday I kept going to the Sci-Fi shelf to see what to watch and I had to remind myself that I didn't need focus on that genre anymore. I picked out a nice drama.

Star Trek - For me it is TNG, then TOS/DS9 tied. I grew up watching TNG, and had never seen TOS (except for the movies) when I started watching TNG. For the movies, Star Trek VI is, hands down, the best.

FantasticVSDoom 08-02-08 09:07 PM

This was my best showing so far in these challenges (thanks you Smallville) but hopefully Ill be able to hit the correct number next time :)

Chad 08-03-08 11:37 PM

I had a blast (pun intended). http://www.clipartof.com/images/emot...ing_smiley.gif

The highlight for me was spending a lazy Sunday afternoon watching the three greatest (IMO) films in sci-fi history back-to-back-to-back - The Day the Earth Stood Still, The War of the Worlds and Forbidden Planet.

The Man with the Golden Doujinshi 08-06-08 10:07 PM

So the top 3 winners are:

1. Trevor (165)
2. chris_sc77 (146)

and a tie for third place
3. Dimension X/RobCA (115)

If the winners would be so kind as to PM me their address, I will send out their prizes to them. Images of prizes will be shown tomorrow, when I find my camera.

The rest of the lists and rankings will be up by the weekend.

The Man with the Golden Doujinshi 08-07-08 08:38 PM

I decided to do something different with the prizes. Instead of assigning them prizes, I'll let the winners choose, in order that they won, what they want.

So we have to wait for Trevor to make the first choice, followed by chris_sc77.

Because of the tie for third, once chris_sc77 selects his, it'll be a race between Dimension X and RobCA to pick from the leftovers. First come, first serve.

All 4 winners automatically win a bag of Gummy Eyeballs

Trevor 08-08-08 11:07 AM

Thanks MP! Phantom Creeps looks great! I have private messages turned off, and you have email off, but you can email me.

chris_sc77 08-08-08 02:23 PM

Ill take the Farscape actions figures then.

RobCA 08-08-08 03:40 PM

I'll take the Hercules double feature. :D

Thanks for doing this, Mister Peepers!

Rob

Dimension X 08-08-08 06:25 PM

Tied for third. That's the highest I've ever ranked in one of these challenges (I think I was number 10 in the first and third horror challenges). I guess it helped that not many people participated.

Thanks for setting up this challenge and giving me an excuse to watch a bunch of my unwatched DVDs, Mister Peepers.

Now if only someone would set up a TV on DVD challenge I could make myself watch the DVDs I thought I'd finally get around to watching this time before I realized just how many unwatched Sci-Fi movies I had laying around...

I left off the people that lasted only a day or two. If you're one of those and really want to be listed, complain here and I'll add you.

Special thanks for Numes doing the entire list of stuff watched instead of just the first page like I asked for.

Cardsfan111 08-10-08 01:32 PM

Appreciated the challenge - I didn't expect to rack up any big numbers since I planned on being out of town some in July. However, it made it easier all month to choose what I would watch, narrowing it down to a specific genre.

Thanks, Mister Peepers.

Walker Boh 08-11-08 06:45 AM

Thanks for organizing the challenge, Mister Peepers. It was a lot of fun, and I hope we do it again next year.

Darth Maher 08-11-08 04:57 PM

Yay! I came in last! :D

seriously though... my heart just wasn't in it. Too busy at work and at home. just wasn't in the mood for Sci-Fi most of the time. Maybe next year.

Numes 08-11-08 05:45 PM

I noticed that there were at least 3-4 people who were watching the show "Eureka." Is this any good? What would you compare it to? I would have never watched it because the name is too close to "Eureka's Castle" which was on Nickelodeon in the 80's.

P.S. Thanks to Mister Peepers for the excellent challenge. Sci-Fi is my favorite genre and it was great to have an excuse to just watch Sci-Fi titles.

That is exactly what I think every time I see or hear about Eureka.

As for the challenge, I am just sorry I did not have more sci-fi movies to watch. I've been buying a lot since the challenge ended to make up for this.

Eureka a fun and quirky show. I can't really think of anything to compare it to but I think it's worth checking out.

Trevor 08-18-08 04:10 PM

Sorry to bump a week old thread, but I don't think I ever properly thanked Mister Peepers and the rest of you. Hopefully this post isn't seen as trying to get in the last word or anything, I just hate it when I don't thank people for a job well done, or for bringing enjoyment to my life.

The past couple months have been tougher than I thought emotionally, but one bright spot was this challenge. I didn't "socialize" with you all as much as I had hoped, or usually do during these events, but I did enjoy both the discussion thread and perusing all of your lists throughout the month. Thanks to Numes for the great list and comments.

We all owe a lot of thanks to Mister Peepers, for the idea, his work in maintaining the threads, and especially the data collection. Hope to "see" you all in October.

RobCA 09-09-08 06:09 PM

Got my prize package in the mail today, thanks Mister Peepers! I'm planning to give the gummy eyeballs out to trick-or-treaters this Halloween. :D

Rob

Sorry it took so long. My wife was close to being due(baby) and it was harder than I thought to find time to run to the post office after finding the time to find boxes followed by more time to wrap everything.
