Pinky Violence films... anyone have a definitive list?

So I just rewatched Female Yakuza Tale and it once again sparked my desire to collect as many of the Pinky Violence genre as I can.

I was wondering if we have any experts on the subject that can point me in the right direction so I can get to compiling a decent DVD collection of these awesome films. I am not region restricted so I'm game for other region releases, but I prefer NTSC transfers (I'll take PAL if it's the only option or if it's a much better release).

I do have the Panik House releases (the R1 box set with the 4 films as well as Female Yakuza Tale and Sex & Fury.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

*EDIT* Also, if anyone knows of any other great Japanese sexploitation films that are similar to the Pinky films, I'd love to know of them.

And the Okatsu trillogy (which I haven't seen yet but is also suppose to be pinky violence).

And the Stray Cat Rock movies.

Mondo's link is a very good one.

As for what's legitimately available, I believe I have some of what's available in Region 1 for pinku eiga/roman porn/sukeban - ala sig. The most notable exceptions are those from the Rica and Flower and Snake series, Horrors of Malformed Men, Snake Woman's Curse and probably a few more that I'm blanking on. Though I'm uncertain if the last two are even categorically correct.

Also, the Hanzo the Razor series have strong elements of pink contained within though technically they run cover as chambara films - starring the Shintaro Katsu (Zatoichi series) as a Japanese Dirty Harry equivalent. Instead of a Magnum he holds his own "sort" of weapon and uses it to his advantage for the sole purpose of bringing his enemies down and driving his superiors crazy. Extremely well done ....

http://www.criterionforum.org did a pretty good list. Lino provides some great information also.

http://www.criterionforum.org/forum/...pic.php?t=1742

All this info taken from this thread. There is more info in that thread. This is just a little bit

Sukeban Blues series (aka Girl Boss)

* The Counter Attack of Woman Bee (1971)

* The Challenge of Woman Bee (1972)

* Guerilla ( 1972) (coming soon from Panik House)

* Onna Bancho aka Girl Boss (1973)

* Juvenile Reformatory Desertion (1973)

* Tie Man Match (1974)

* Billiards Play (1974)

About Sukeban:

Sukeban is a street slang conjunction of Zubeko Bancho which would literally translate as "bitch female boss". When shortened, it's commonly accepted to mean "Girl Boss". There are two different series, individually utilizing each title, but collectively they are known to Japanese sexploitation Otaku (fans) as the "Destroy All Girl Boss Films."

The current Kogal (also Kogaru) style of retro-hip soul-sister fashion can be first seen in these films -released two decades before the advent of Kogal culture. In fact, these films were the first to show high school girls (albeit delinquents) in street styles rather than exclusively in the uniforms that are so famous the world over.

This change-of-styles was likely a political statement on the part of the filmmakers (equating the loss of that uniform as the loss of sexual innocence), and it heralded the advent of Japanese feminism.

Sukeban films are almost science fiction, at least in a sociological sense, which is to say that they work as a collective cautionary tale for Japan in much the same way that A Clockwork Orange was a pessimistic prediction for England.

Stray Cat Rock series (aka Alley Cat Rock and all starring Meiko Kaji) :

* Female Boss (1970)

* Wild Jumbo (1970)

* Sex Hunter (1970) (out on DVD through HVE)

* Animal Machine (1970)

* Crazy Riders '71 (1971)

About Stray Cat Rock:

Experiencing its heyday roughly between 1971 and 1976, with Nikkatsu's Roman Porno and Toei's Pinky Violence as its two main streams, Japanese exploitation benefited from solid production values and a new wave of talent both in front of and behind the camera. With avid young helmers like Tatsumi Kumashiro, Kinji Fukasaku and Shunya Ito, and the star power of such actresses as Meiko Kaji, Naomi Tani and Miki Sugimoto, the 1970s are a treasure trove of pleasure, guilty and otherwise.

Nikkatsu's Stray Cat Rock series of delinquent girl gang films can be considered as one of the forerunners of this phenomenon. Consisting of five episodes made in 1970 and 1971, it is boxed in between the lurid pop art explosions characteristic of much of Nikkatsu's output of the 60s, as exemplified by the work of Seijun Suzuki, and the more shameless and graphic exploitation cinema of the 1970s. Closer in spirit to the former in its abundant go-go dancing, musical interludes and nightclub scenes, Stray Cat Rock at the same time announced what was to come in its approach to violence and sexuality, as well as in its casting choices, with stars Meiko Kaji and Tatsuya Fuji going on to make indelible marks on the decade that followed.

Terrifying Girl's High School
series:

* Female Violent Classroom (1972)

* Lynchlaw Classroom (1973) (coming soon from Panik House)

* Delinquent Group (1973)

* Animal Classmates (1973)

School Gang Leaders (aka Zubeko Bancho)

* Dreams Open The Night (1970)

* Tokyo Bad Girls (1970)

* Worthless to Confess (?) (coming soon from Panik House)

Sasori series (aka Female Convict Scorpion and all starring Meiko Kaji)

* Female Convict Scorpion # 701: Scorpion (1972) (out on DVD through Media Blasters)

* Jailhouse 41 (1972) (out on DVD through Image)

* Beast Stable (1973)

* Grudge Song (1973)

Lady Snowblood series (both starring Meiko Kaji)

* Blizzard from the Netherworld (1973) (out on DVD through Animeigo)

* Love Song of Vengeance (1974) (out on DVD through Animeigo)

Hanzo the Razor series:

* Sword of Justice (1972)

* The Snare (1973)

* Who's got the Gold? (1975)

(Couldn't find a review for Rica 2: Lonely Wanderer, and Rica 3: Juvenile's Lullaby)

I'm a big Pinky Violence fan. My favorites are:

Bohachi Bushido (the best pink film I've ever seen)
Sex and Fury
Zero Woman Red Handcuffs
School of the Holy Beast
Female Prisoner Scorpion 701
Blind Womans Curse (more samurai but some nudity)
(these are all region 1 releases)

I didn't like the Rica series at all. Poisonous Seductress are more samurai and not really pink films. Malformed Men is good but really weird and takes awhile to get going. The Girl Boss movies are decent as is Stray Cat Rock Sex Hunter.

Some good ones have already been mentioned. I can add that if you are interested in Nikkatsu's Roman porno films, I'd recommend these two to start with: WIFE TO BE SACRIFICED (available in R1) and STAR OF DAVID:BEAUTY HUNTING aka BEAUTIFUL GIRL HUNTER (I have the Japan Shock R2 PAL DVD of this, I'm not sure if it's still in print though?).

AsmodeusVice 05-26-08 08:16 PM

Thanks alot guys for all the info. I really do appreciate it. I'm already compiling a list for when I get paid. Keep the lists coming (if there is anything that hasn't been mentioned yet).

I'm glad that alot of these films are available on DVD. That way I don't have to go too crazy trying to find them.

My buddy watched Female Yakuza Tale with me and now he's hooked on them as well. Hell, the first film I ever showed him at my place was Man Bites Dog. He's scarred for life because of me. :D

Jigen75 05-27-08 12:58 AM

I forgot to mention Star of David: Beautiful Girl Hunter. That one is very good. It's getting a region 1 release later this year with commentary by Norifumi Suzuki!

My all-time favorite pinky violence film: Female Convict Scorpion: Jailhouse 41. This was my first exposure to pinky violence (thanks to the Image DVD; I've since picked up the French version, which has a better transfer), and nothing I've seen since has managed to live up to it (although Female Prisoner Scorpion: Beast Stable is also excellent).

Awesome news, it looks like I'll be upgrading my disc (it has decent picture quality and English subs, but is an older non-anamorphic release).

SterlingBen 05-27-08 11:13 PM

Aint it cool has this as a new release this week

It was released last week... but close enough :)

Jigen75 05-28-08 12:52 AM

Yeah that Bohachi Bushido DVD is great, its got lots of good extras and the movie is awesome. The same company (Discotek) that released that one is going to put out Star of David.

The film is extremely fun and most everything one could expect of Ishii - tons of skin, tons of blood and flying limbs, excellent use of colors and lighting and a couple of grotesque characters for good measure. The story ain't bad either.

It's only a hint of his weirder films so it probably wouldn't be a bad intro for casual viewers.

Really? I've had it for about a month now I think. Discotek's webstore has had it up for a while.

zombeaner 05-28-08 08:00 PM

BTW, I can't recommend Discotek's webstore enough. Their prices are usually less than other online retailers, they have free shipping, and all of my orders have been shipped very quickly. I always like to support the company producing the discs if I can.

We need a sticky thread with early releases :lol:

I'll have to check out their website (I do have a couple of their releases). But I do like to support Tony over at xploited.

Does anyone know if the various DVD releases of Sex & Fury are all the same? (A/V Quality, Uncut Status, OAR, Etc.)

The R1 has gone out of print (I believe for a while now) and I want to pick up the film. I believe there are R3 and R2 versions of the film out.

WEEDEDOUT 10-07-08 02:31 PM

Apparently the same transfers, but don't have the audio commentary
