The THX Editions of the original Star Wars are the original theatrical versions, unavailable on DVD except as non-anamorphic "extras" on the last DVD release.
We'll probably never see a proper DVD release.
Well, the LDs are non-anamorphic as well, and you don't have to "flip" the DVDs half way through the movie. But the A/V quality of the LD is still superior to the rather poorly transfered DVD versions, so yeah it's nice to have the LDs (I do).
