Spaceballs vs. Spaceballs: Collector's Edition
I noticed that the standard 'Spaceballs' release includes 'behind the scenes footage' that was not listed on the 'Spaceballs: Collector's Edition' DVD. Can anyone confirm what this 'behind the scenes footage' is and if it is or isn't included on the Collector's Edition release? Is this footage enough to own a copy of the standard edition? Used copies are available for $1 from Amazon. Thanks!

You are better off with the collector's edition.
The footage is just EPK material and does not hold a candle to the new featurettes created for the CE. In fact, Spaceballs: The Documentary includes '05 interviews with nearly every surviving major lead except Rick Moranis. The CE also fixes a major framing issue that ruined a joke. |
The CE is the one to get, but I have to admit to owning both versions because I wanted to keep that missing feature from the first release. Honestly though it isn't worth the trouble if you already have the CE.

Regardless, the CE includes an anamorphic transfer. The movie-only edition does not.
Also, you can pick up the CE for pretty cheap now. The other week, Fry's had it for $4. |
If I liked this movie, I'd choose owning both for $8 total.

Trevor - How could you not like this movie?!

I do own the original release, bought it for $5 to get a free $10 movie ticket once. But the one time I watched it it fell totally flat for me. But I have told myself that it deserves another chance, so I'm holding onto it for another viewing some day. But generally, I'm not a huge Brooks fan, although I loved Young Frankenstein. |
I am a bit partial to the audio on the original release, the CE seems off to me. Could be the way the audio track was mixed.

Why don't you troll somewhere else? :notrolls: |
Give me a break. I typed three slightly negative words, then, in response to a direct question, tried to make a silly joke and posted a few more words about probably liking the movie someday.
My main point of posting in the thread was to tell the OP he could own both versions for about $8 total, and that was my advice. If you think I'm a troll or a threadcrapper you don't get out much, or are just super sensitive today. |
Definitely go CE - I mean, it's for COLLECTORS. That's what it says on the cover. That always means it's the best... right? Right??? -ptth-
Just kidding... Seriously, though, I would go with the CE version - Spaceballs: The Documentary is worth the extra $$$. |
Why were neither of these released called "Spaceballs: The DVD"?
