I know some don't like the term "guilty pleasure" but this is one of them. It'll be great to finally hear the ELO songs in 5.1.

QFT!!!!!

This should be Universal's first Blu-ray Disc release.

Okay, no it should not, but wouldn't that be funny if it was, as a joke to all the hardcore BD supporters who were hounding them to switch?

I have the original DVD too, but it sorely needs remastering. I will buy this if they improve the transfer especially if it is Blu Ray.

I have no qualms admitting I love this craptastic movie. But I also know that there are tons of features that could be on a special edition DVD. The 'Making Xanadu' special, the tons of deleted and alternate scenes. Music videos, live performances, etc.

I'm pretty disappointed. Still, I'll probably buy it as I lost my copy of the soundtrack a couple of years ago.

For fun, here's an alternate version of Suspended In Time cut from the movie.

Believe it or not, I still have this soundtrack on VINYL. A must-have for anyone who grew up in the 80's.

There are some songs from the film that were only released on 45rpm b-sides. I wish they would consider including those on the bonus CD. :p

My fiancee and I were watching an ELO video from Xanadu this evening. She remarked, "That really is one of the worst movies ever made". I agreed, but we both knew that we liked it anyway. "Guilty Pleasure", indeed. Great soundtrack, and Gene Kelly and ONJ are both fantastic to watch. Bring it on.

As much as I love the film, I think it needs to be remade, especially if it's based off the vastly superior Broadway musical.

That would be nice! I know 'Drum Dreams', 'Fool Country' and 'You Made Me Love You' were B-sides to the singles and there are demo versions of some of the songs floating around.

It's the 3 hit songs and watching lovely Olivia the only thing good in this movie.
I don't understand why this 1980 movie has a following and not CAN'T STOP THE MUSIC which is on the same level and year.

You also have Gene Kelly dancing (even skating) plus there's a Don Bluth animation sequence. Don't forget the other muses (even an early Sandahl Bergman) :)

They're not even close to being on the same level. Did we really need a thinly disguised movie about how the Village People started? Bruce Jenner?

Were any of those ELO tracks?

SI78 03-02-08 11:40 AM

Drum Dreams is an ELO track.

Nick Nunziata's take on this movie from CHUD.com is absolutely hilarious.

I haven't seen the movie, but the line about "packaging the DVD in a little closet" kills me and makes me want to see the movie out of morbid curiosity. I'll probably be horrified, but I have such a desire. Is it as ridiculous as it's made out to be?

Valerie Perinne is hot in the movie and the musical numbers are good.
And you get to see what Bruce Jenner looks like before he went to Micheal Jackson's face doctor.

Drum Dreams is indeed an ELO track, but there's no Jeff Lynn vocal, just a chorus of folks repeatedly shouting "Xanadu" to a festive drum beat.
I was really hoping to see this on HD DVD. Oh, well. . .

Giles 03-03-08 08:43 AM

so this version will have used a new cleaned up print as it's source ???

SI78 03-03-08 11:57 AM

The movie has been running on Universal HD quite a bit lately, so I'd assume so.

well, then there should be no reason why Universal wouldn't release this on bluray - (please).

FILMCZY 03-03-08 12:44 PM

After watching "Xanadu" you'll never look at a pair of roller skates in quit the same way you did as a kid...

For a fun threesome, try watching this with "Can't Stop the Music" and "Sgt. Pepper"

D'oh!
