While I certainly enjoyed Bw/BB, I was pretty disappointed with it, and consider it a rather weak effort for Futurama.
The preview for the next installment makes it look like it could be a hit or miss, with the drastic change in setting and obvious parodies. |
I have always been a huge fan of Futurama. I was really happy with the announcement of these four straight-to-DVD-movies. I really enjoyed Bender's Big Score, and have watched it several times. Simply put, The Beast With A Billion Backs didn't live up to its predecessor. That being said, I still thought it was a good movie/episode.
General thoughts about what happened in the movie: Spoiler:
I'm looking forward to the next movie. EDIT: The only special feature I have checked out thus far (aside from the preview of Bender's Game) was The Lost Adventure. While it was kind of cheesy and had a very thin plot (which I assume takes place in an alternate timeline or universe), it was still a nice "bonus episode" for those of us that haven't had the chance to play the Futurama Videogame. |

A pricematch worked for me at BB with the CC ad. My local CC hadn't even received their shipment yet yesterday... so I wasn't aware that it didn't actually cost 13.99 at CC, even more reason why I'm glad I went over to BB.

I own all the season sets and love the heck out of Bender's Big Score. I wanted to love this movie...I really did. But man...it just fell flat in so many areas. It was utterly awful. All over the place, and it just didn't feel like it had much of a focus.

Watched the preview for the third movie and it doesnt look too good. Ill still buy it regardless though. ;)

There was a regular episode of Futurama in which Fry's nose was stolen by aliens to be used as an aphrodisiac. They go on the hunt for it and stop in "The Beast with Two Bucks - $1.99 Sex Shop" for leads.

so i finally got a chance to check this out.... i kept my expectations low so i enjoyed it. although i can see peoples' points about it not living up to its previousALL GLORY TO THE HYPNOTOAD

It's disappointing to hear that it falls short of Bender's Big Score. That movie wasn't too good. I loved the series, but only got a few laughs out of BBS.

I think I actually liked this better than Bender's Big Score. Benders Big Score was a really nice return for Futurama, lots of inside jokes and the whole plot revolved around stuff we knew from the entirety of the series as we knew it. But Beast With A Billion Backs felt like what I wanted, an episode of Futurama, albeit one that was an hour and a half long. I think there was sooooooo much going on in the first feature length Futurama, that it made it feel longer than it was. This film I felt for the most part, knew its pace.
So don't quite read into a lot of people saying that they felt the first one was better, on some levels it was, and on others it isn't. |

holy crap! Can't believe how many people didn't like this. It wasn't all THAT bad! It was extremely entertaining... not the best Futurama, certainly not the worst!

And the bar is raise for these releases. While I appreciate they are basically direct to DVD episodes, they really are viewed as direct to DVD movies by the consumers. I have higher expectations for these than I do for an average episode. |
The bar shouldn't be raised for these releases though. It's just more of the Futurama we love, and I think that's part of the problem. A lot of people wanted much more. Remember folks, these are going to be played in actual 20 minute episodes eventually, just broken up.

I'm surprised Futurama fans are disappointed in these movies. Of course they're not going to be the greatest thing ever released in the history of cinema, but as a longtime Futurama fan, I'm really happy to get more of the show I love. They look great, make me laugh a lot, and are really fun. I don't know what more I could want. I think they stand alongside the four seasons of the show very well, and I wouldn't consider my Futurama collection complete without them. Bring on the third film.
Also, for what it's worth, I enjoyed the new movie a little more than Bender's Big Score as well. |
If you read the thread, most of the people are saying that while the movies aren't great, they're still enjoyable and welcome. As for me, so far I haven't met a Futurama episode that I haven't enjoyed on at least a moderate to high level. It's like pizza or sex. Even when it's bad, it's still pretty good.
