DVD Saves Life
(For anyone that needs to convince a loved one that dvd collecting is worthwhile)
An off-duty firefighter in South Carolina recently took a bullet to the gut and survived -- thanks to an unlikely bit of body armor. AP reports that Colleton County Fire and Rescue Director Barry McRoy was on his way out of a Waffle House over the weekend, when he encountered two men struggling for a gun. A shot was fired, striking one of the men and then ricocheting off of a window into McRoy's stomach. Luckily, he was carrying a DVD, made by one of his employees about fire extinguishers, which deflected the bullet. "I felt something like being hit in the stomach and assumed it was the percussion from the discharged firearm," said McRoy. "I was saved by a DVD. How lucky can you get?" If carrying around a DVD can save your life, then why not carry a bag full of gadgets -- for extra protection? It's better to be safe than sorry... Tom Radler February 20, 2008 |

That is the only reason I collect dvds.

But was the DVD alright????
|
Maybe it was a DVD-18. They've got to be good for something, right?

How awesome would it have been if the movie had been Bulletproof?

Do they have bullet proof glass in Waffle Houses in South Carolina, or was that just oddly worded? Or do South Carolinians call BBs bullets? Edit to add a little differently worded story: A South Carolina man is thankful for a DVD that ended up taking a bullet for him. Colleton County Fire and Rescue Director Barry McRoy says he was leaving a Waffle House restaurant in Walterboro on Saturday morning when two men ran in fighting over a gun. Police say a bullet hit one of the struggling men, shattered a window and then hit McRoy. |
See, this is why I've got over 800 DVDs. I'm trying to line the walls of my house with them to protect me from drive-bys.

Wonder if it would of made a difference if it was a blu-ray disk

It says it impacted at his stomach. Was he supposed to be holding the disc? It was actually porn his friend had illegally copied. They just told the press it was about fire extinguishers.

This story really ought to be called "DVD prevents skin abrasion."
After two ricochets the bullet's kinetic energy was severely reduced anyway. No flimsy DVD would have been able to absorb a significant impact to begin with, so the fact that the DVD stopped anything means there wasn't much to stop. |
I sure hope the DVD wasn't OOP.
