Pinocchio: Platinum Edition ----> Spring 2009

The recent 101 Dalmatians DVD has a commercial stating that Pinocchio is being re-released in a Platinum Edition on Blu-Ray and DVD in Spring 2009.

That's a freaking lifetime away...

Look at it this way. It's closer than it was 4 years ago. I can't wait to upgrade. ;)

TimSaupe 02-20-08 01:14 PM

Well, I hope FANTASIA is the Platinum title for the fall then . . .

slop101 02-20-08 01:36 PM

Well, we already got a pretty good Fantasia a few years ago (the 3-disc set was amazing). But we've always only had the one shitty Pinoocchio release - or two, if you count the "gold" release, which was a just a repackaging of the same shitty release.

shyguy1083 02-20-08 07:10 PM

finally! but if the quality of the platinum editions continue to lessen, this may end up being only so-so. nevertheless, good news like this is always welcome. :)

I think there's a good chance of that happening, since it would be next in line. Another good thing is that we'd probably get Fantasia 2000 on BD at the same time. Actually, a new DVD of that title could also benefit, if it doesn't have the edge enhancement that plagued the previous release. I just hope all of the previous supplements are carried over for both movies (you just know they'll add some lame new ones for kids, probably a "virtual sorcerer's apprentice" or something).

Great! I've been waiting for Pinocchio.

I just wish they would release Fantasia in a 2 disc with the special features from the 3rd disc of the anthology. I passed on that when it came out and I regreted it. They released Toy Story with the special features from the box set.

I hope they retain the DTS track and upgrade it to 6.1

uncle-frank 02-21-08 09:44 AM

i'd buy that for a dollar!

My guess is that Snow White will show its age once it goes Blu Ray. Heck, it shows its age on DVD. Great story and the film that really was the breakout film in animation but it's not Disney at its peak.

Pinocchio is one of the all time greats and it hasn't received the treatment it deserves.

Deco King 02-29-08 03:04 AM

I so disagree with ctyankee about Snow White! I really think Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs was the first peak in Disney animation. It was such a groundbreaking movie and its charm has never been equalled. All the modern stuff from Disney esentially lacks heart , the Almighty Dollar never far from their sights , but Snow White had it in spades. An excellent score , great songs , fine cast of still memorable characters and a splendid villainess in the Wicked Queen/Witch still one of their scariest!

You may "so disagree" with me but you don't contradict any of my points. I call Snow White a "breakout film in animation" and you've just word smithed my point about Snow White not being Disney's peak of animation to saying Snow White was :the first peak of Disney animation." So what have you said that's any different?

Starting the violin about modern stuff not having "heart" and the "almighty dollar" has got nothing to do with what I wrote.

A great story and great characters are the heart of any film. Animation has always been about marvelous art and techniques that fool the eye. My concern is that those techniques were still developing when Disney did Snow White and going to a high definition format may expose the film to appearing dated.

Anyone have a photo of the dvd cover artwork :)?

shyguy1083 10-17-08 07:42 PM
