I will be shocked if this isn't one of the first Blu-Rays announced by Paramount....

Kory 04-06-08 12:58 PM

I bought the 2-disc for $16.95 on CH.com, with free shipping and no tax. This is the first thing I've actually bought from them, outside of the initial DVDs I received. I would assume this will be packaged the same as it is everywhere else, right?

dvd_luver 04-07-08 06:28 PM

I'll have to buy the 2-disc set at the store. That set would probably get smashed up in the mail. Also, what a stretch for Paramount to sport discs for this that are not gray on top. I bet it was such a tough choice for them to abandon that now beloved silver disc top design for this edition (sarcasm). I also can see why there are so many complaints about the disc slots on this set. Paramount is probably to darn cheap to mass market a digipack which this set should have been. They also could have done the Zodiac 2-disc set like this, but didn't. The Al Gore set was different, that was done for the enviornment, this for greed. Oh well, Paramount is to cheap to make movies in digipacks I guess.

Custom cardboard slipcases like this actually cost more than a traditional digipak to produce, believe it or not. One good thing about this is that unlike with standard keepcase releases, reprinting custom cases like this does not encounter a price break on the second printing, meaning once this enters a second printing, expect to either see the 2-Disc just go out of print or resurface quietly in traditional 2-disc keepcase.

Yeah, it'll be packaged the same. I ordered it from Columbia House also, I can't wait.

Yeah, the whole world has gone topsy turvy. Next thing you know Universal will start putting more than just black text on their discs. Madness!!!!!

Sparrow 04-07-08 08:18 PM

I so want to own this movie tomorrow, but I know this will be one of the first BD releases for Paramount and I truly have to stop spending. I now wonder if I'll get it by Wednesday from Netflix given its popularity....

riotinmyskull 04-08-08 09:18 AM

if anyone finds keepcase versions of the 2-disc today anywhere please let us know.

mike2 04-08-08 10:25 AM

I'm so tempted to go out today and get the 2-disk dvd. I'm holding myself back because I'd rather have the BD version. It would be a blind buy for me but I heard the movie was brilliant so it will be worth it.

Moleman1138 04-08-08 10:34 AM

Both the single and double discs are in digipaks

I don't mean to nitpick, but "digipak" implies that the discs are also held in plastic trays...it doesn't just refer to the paperboard style of packaging. You might get some folks' hopes up. :(

2-disc @ Target?

anyone see the 2-disc at Target today?

Sorry, didn't see any at Best Buy. They had 3 different sections where you could find this dvd at. I ended up getting the 1 discer with the remainder of gc from X-mas. My disc had a two very fine scratches upon inspection. I don't think it is anything that will hurt the play of the dvd. Regardless, what a lousy way to package a dvd.

I was at BB today browsing around and without a doubt, the 1-disc version of TWBB is the worst packaging ever. Or lack of I suppose. Flimsy is being kind to describe it. I look forward to a sturdy blue case, whenever that will be. :(

I was at Target today and saw both the 1-disc and 2-disc versions.

asianxcore 04-08-08 03:31 PM

I wanted to hold off for the Blu-Ray release, but ended up picking up the 2-disc.

Packaging stinks, but I'm happy to be able to watch this movie again. Loved it.

mike2 04-08-08 03:42 PM

Can someone post a pic of how horrible the packaging is?

chris_sc77 04-08-08 03:45 PM

Hasn't there already been like hundreds of pics of the packaging in this thread?
Please refer to post #136 for said pics.

MikeDeN2K 04-08-08 04:16 PM

The packaging is fantastic. And no one should have any trouble sliding the discs out with their thumb and middle/forefinger. Neither of mine (bought two-disc for me, and a two-disc for the GF as well) had any scratches on any discs, and the packaging looked very appealing on the shelf.

Spiral Staircase 04-08-08 04:24 PM

The single disc version has the worst packaging I have ever seen in person. I decided to rent TWBB at Blockbuster. They do have keepcase versions for the rental copies. Hopefully, Paramount will use keepcases for the next pressing. Here is a picture of the keepcase cover:

How much does Blockbuster charge if you "lose" the disc?

Good question. I didn't know they got lucky and were able to attain keepcases for themselves.

I know it started at Hollywood a few years ago. I got a keepcase copy of Mystic River used when the regular retail store copies were snappers.

My rental was free, but if I kept the rental five days after the due date, it would be converted to a sale. The receipt states, "Own It 04/16/08 For Only $21.99 More." It will probably be available previously-viewed for 2/$20 in a little over a month.

jmu878 04-08-08 05:57 PM

just take out the cover when you rent it and return the case and disc. i seriously doubt they'd charge you for it.
