What would you do with Transformers Generation 1 box sets

Apparently I've been reading that they are OOP. Is there a point to keep them long term? Will they be worth more for resale 5-10 years from now? I just like having them because I grew up watching them, but I could care less about "OOP" or "Collector's items." I just want to scrape up some cash to start my new Blu Ray habit.

What would you do? Sell now and buy cheaper set or Keep the OOP seasons.

Isn't it up to you if you like them enough to keep them? We can't tell you that. Nobody even knows if they will be re-released.

DVD Josh 02-04-08 11:04 AM

If I needed money I would sell. If I wanted to watch them again, I would keep them.

Do you want to make $400? One of my friends did, when I sold his collection

Groucho 02-04-08 12:05 PM

I bought 40 of these, but the resell value was never that good so I returned them to Best Buy.

DonnachaOne 02-04-08 12:11 PM

If I had them? I'd play them whenever my nephew visited. Seven years old and in love with Transformers, so I've been getting old episodes on YouTube and the like to show him. If I could find the season sets for a reasonable price I'd bite.

Yesterday my nephew and niece sat down together and watched "The Girl Who Loved Powerglide", which is quite possibly the worst thing ever, but it's nostalgia. Me and my brother (their dad) found ourselves knowing the lines off by heart.

I made $370 off mine, and that was two years ago.

ds6161 02-04-08 01:06 PM

Isn't the new CO that has the rights to em suppost to re-release them this year?? If so sell now, and re-buy..

feloosa 02-04-08 01:10 PM

yeah i think i got around $250 collectively in the last few months for just the season 3 and 4 sets.

I'm a big fan, but don't mind cashing in while they are still valuable. The series will have to be re-released at some point and then the value of these will plummet. Similar to Twin Peaks Season 1 and the Muppet Show Time Life 15 disc set. Those were selling for around $200-250 a set, but have plummeted since being re-released.

Exactly the old bond sets paid for 1/3 of my Plasma TV :) And the re release are dirt cheap now.

It's just simple supply and demand. Having what others are demanding at the moment
is always a good thing. As long as it's legal that is.

If you have a multi-region DVD player, the UK PAL DVDs of Transformers are cheap and not out-of-print. I would sell the Region 1 DVDs and buy the UK Pal ones.

I had Season One Volume One and sold it last year after the movie came out. Figured it was a good time to ditch it since there'd probably be a higher interest in it and I'm not going to pay a premium to get the others since they'll probably get released again.

I'm just saying, .... :D

Quack 02-05-08 04:03 PM

I sold mine for about $350 a couple months ago, I had watched all them, and I'm hopefully they'll be re-released some day, same thing as the G.I. Joe DVD's.

radicaldeth 02-05-08 04:52 PM

Quick question. ^^ Does anyone know if the R2 version has a cleaned up print compared to the R1?

uncle-frank 02-05-08 06:03 PM

It depends... Does the car transform into a robot?

I sold my complete series set for $420 shipped on ebay back in August, then bought the awesome R4 boxed set here http://www.ezydvd.com.au/item.zml/793042 for around $150 shipped and pocketed mthe rest. In my opinion, this set is superior to the Rhino releases. And the retro packaging is really damn cool.

Dane Marvin 02-06-08 12:07 AM

Dude, sell.

I can't even get through more than 1 or 2 episodes now that I am a grown adult. Sheesh. You will be much happier with a PS3 or something like that for the same price!
