I have been lucky to find sales on the "head" cases to keep them under $25 for the last few seasons, but otherwise I might still shell out $30 if I have to. Those cases seem to get hard to find sub-$40 more quickly with each release, which is odd since a lot of people claim to hate the packaging. But I agree it's hard to justify paying that for some of these seasons. They got way too politically liberal and preachy where you can tell the writers were using the episodes to vent their own views, whereas the earlier seasons didn't have to rely on cheap shots to get laughs.

Personally, I thought the quality started to go down AFTER season 11. Season 11 had several funny episodes, including the one where Barney gets sober and "Behind the Laughter." I have memories of watching that season when it first ran and continualy thinking to myself that the Simpsons was still as funny as it had ever been after all of those years. After season 11, it started to become hit and miss (mostly miss). I will be getting every season on dvd though.

I would normally say screw the commentaries too.
In fact I still do with Season 11 and on.
Why?
Because while the commentaries for S1-9 were awesome, Season 10's commentaries were BO-RING. The new crop of writers that appeared were very uninteresting.
I think it's pretty obvious where a lot of the talent went (Futurama). All of those commentaries are gold.

It will be coming out. I would imagine that the season sets for The Simpsons have sold well enough to save it from the fate of shows such as King Of The Hill. However, it could be any length of time.

I'll continue to buy each and every season as they are released. I personally stopped watching around season 10 or 11, but not because of any dislike for the show. I just found better things to do with my time. These days, I watch episodes when I catch them on TV. That said, I've enjoyed every season set released so far, so I'm willing to watch seasons 11 and up in order when they come out. There are few shows that I continue to buy on DVD (I didn't even buy season 6 of 24, and I LIKED that season!), but The Simpsons isn't one I'm willing to give up on.

Personally i stopped collecting The Simpsons already as I really grew bored watching the season 10 box set and haven't put it back on yet.
I've started collecting Family Guy instead and get a lot more laughs out of it now.

I stopped buying after season nine and will not buy anymore sets until season 14 or so(or whenever the Mike Scully era ended). With most of the hardcore fans dreading these seasons it wouldn't surprise me if sales fall off a cliff. I could see this show going into release limbo very easily.

I don't know, it's still THE SIMPSONS so it will still sale. The movie just did a killing, the property is hot. I'll probably buy season 11, season 10 was hit and miss but it still had enough to entertain me. But I've got plenty to tide me over until then.

Up until season 10 I wanted every episode. Seaosn 10 was the first set where there were some episodes I didn't care to have.
I'll have to look at the episode lists for each season and see if there are enough from 11-14 to make them worth owning. I can guarantee I won't own Season 15-18.

20th Century Fox is very slow at releasing the seasons now which sucks but what can we do, right?! I can't wait til' it gets released and to see what the cover looks like.

I liked season 11, but I'll probably stop after that. Reading the episode caps, season 12 flat-out sucks, and the suckage continues in various degrees from there on.

"Almost feels like I'm wearing.. nothing at all. ...nothing at all. ...nothing at all. ...nothing at all."
"Ahh! Stupid sexy Flanders!"
So yeah, where IS Season 11? I didn't expect it to be released yet, but given the track pattern of the last few seasons, it should be coming out in August. There hasn't even been an announcement yet, and some studios are giving us titles coming out in September and October. Any ideas?
