I'm pretty sure that comment was just a jab at the discussion over in Movie Talk about the lackluster US box office take.

I preordered 2 disc and Hollywood Screen Legends Giftset (Roman Holiday, To Catch a Thief, and A Place in the Sun) both for only $10.40 ($2.60 a movie) at CH.com (not to be confused with Columbia House)

Really? That's not bad.

Based on that, I see that New Line announced plans to film The Subtle Knife last month...

Um... are you serious? Why would they cost the same? You are getting a whole second disk of stuff, they aren't just going to give it to you for free.

Not too long ago we used to get 2-disk editions of big movie for the regular price. The Lord of the rings Trilogy, Blade 2, Die Another Day, Spider-Man 1/2 (But not 3; for 3 we had to pay extra for less than we got on the SM 2 set), etc etc.
These separate release for 1 and 2 disk editions are bullshit and is just another reason I wont buy new releases like i uses to. For example I will buy Across The Universe because that is a 2-disk set. There is no 1 disk version. Why do they have 1 AND 2 disk editions of this?

Exactly. I thought that was a strange comment, too.

I actually agree with this point, but not the refusal to buy anyway. The good news IMO, is that I think it's short lived. Enough people are not buying either edition until the 2 disc goes on clearance and it's not cost effective to make two versions. I've seen a lot of $22+ plus special 2 disc versions on sale for

Good. I'd hate to see them leave the story hanging.

OK, so you don't want a choice. You just want the studio to offer a two-disc set and as long as there's no cheaper one-disc version, you'll pay whatever they want to charge.

EDIT: Besides, I never thought there was that much on the LOTR second discs anyway.

So why isn't there more info/specs on this title? I want to know what's going to be on the Blu-ray! It comes out in less than two weeks!

I'm sure one of the reviewers here at DVDTalk will have the review up a few days before it's released.

I don't think there are any plans to film a second movie. I found this article (http://www.bridgetothestars.net/news...equel-unclear/) from a fan site for the books saying that important sets had been dismantled and that hopes for a sequel were thought to be quite low.

Not that I quote it as gospel, but IMDB lists it as "announced" and "in production":
http://imdb.com/title/tt0934963/

And I'm not sure what "important sets" coincide between the two books. In fact, I can't think of a single location (except maybe Lee's balloon) that would have appeared in the 1st that would also be in the 2nd especially since the 2nd opens in
Spoiler:
our world.

In any case, I think it would be rather hasty of New Line to forego finishing the trilogy before the first part gets a home video release. THAT is where the real money is to be made!

Yeah, you'd think they'd try their best to at least suppress the news as that could significantly affect sales

For those of you looking to buy this:

Best Buy - Bonus DVD with 45 minutes of extra footage (according to the Best Buy thread in the Bargain forum)

Borders - Bonus Booklet (hopefully it will be packed in like Pan's Labyrinth as that was also New Line)

source for Borders bonus: http://www.allmovie.com/cg/avg.dll?p=avg&sql=16:191287

There are no plans to continue the franchise right now, especially not by New Line which is essentially a dead studio at the moment. They also made nothing on the film because they only owned domestic distribution.

If true, it looks like I'll be camping out at BB.

Anyone get the bonus disc yet at Best Buy and can confirm exactly what it is?

The BB bonus disc has 3 featurettes: "Meet the Cast," "Stunts," & "Locations." Haven't had a chance to actually watch the bonus yet, but that's what the disc face says...

What is cool, though, is that the bonus disc isn't tucked in an envelope in the case, but instead the case itself is made for holding three discs. Nifty.

So does the Best Buy bonus disc only come with the standard DVD? Anyone know if it comes with the Blu-Ray?

Yep, was a bit dissapointed that its only more featurettes and not deleted footage. Especially since my BB was charging $35 for it.

Unless of course theres one hell of an easter egg on there.
