Ever crave a particular DVD?
and then just had to have it by any means necessary?
so many times i get this urge to see a movie that i either saw once and dismissed, but something stuckthen had a sudden urge to see it again. i fixate and then i just have to have it. two recently did this to my slowly deteriorating mind... "Shattered Glass" and today, "May". SG i always loved but never bit, then i go all over and no one had it, not target, cc, bb, walmart, fye had one but @ $15.99. i knew i could do better, but it was tempting. also, with these fixations i need them now and hate to do online. finally found in B&N for $9.99 so got it and felt relieved. then "May" and i remember seeing it all over back then and nothing at any place, so i had to do online. oh well. i didn't even love this movie, but bits of me wanted to see it again bc some things about it stuck, the imagery, the brilliantly awkward performance of Bettis. it is these compulsions that drive me batty sometimes. |
i've been craving an 'ed' dvd since they cancelled the show. i hope that i don't have to wait forever.

No, not really. There have been things I've wanted that I couldn't really explain, but I'd only buy it if the price was right. |

If it is OOP, I will probably not buy it unless an incredible opportunity presents itself. My theory is that eventually it will be re-released with the special features that I am missing from those OOP releases. This is most likely just dilusional optimism, but I'm fine with that. If it is not OOP, I just buy it! :D |

"By any means necessary" makes you sound like a drug user looking for a fix.

I always wondered this as well. So many people always claim to wear out their discs and for the life of me, I can't figure out how. Whatever discs I had to replace were due to damage caused by someone (not me) mishandling them. But if you're careful, I don't see how you could wear out a DVD. |
The DVD lasers eat away at your discs every time you play them. Don't you know how lasers work?

Braveheart
The bits posted a rumor about a SE in the works about 2 years ago, so I sold mine in anticipation while I could still get a decent amount for it. Little did I know it would be more than two years to see it released. Now that it's out I'm on the next gen bandwagon and don't want to buy it. I check out the SE every now and again wanting to get it, I just can't do it. |

Kind of different but I remember having a craving to see a movie I knew I owned but couldn't find, only to realize I had sold it off months before for some reason...

My copy of Street Fighter (Van Damme) has no scratches on it and has only been played twice in the 10 years i've owned it and when I tried to watch it last year the disc wont load on any machine (I tried 7-8 different players I own). Due to its heavy use, the Spinal Tap DVD is not in perfect shape, but should still play. The main concentration of minor scratches in on the outer parts of the disc, not the inside where the end of the movie will be located. I'm disappointed cause it is out of print and I should of bought the mgm copy years ago and let my Criterion be more of a collectors item but I didn't. then college hit where we watched that movie twice a week for 2 years straight. My bad. i'll live. |

I get these compulsions all the time. But for me it is usually a movie that I have never seen nor ever been interested in, but for some reason I will want to see this particular movie out of the blue and just have to have it NOW. That's why i've gotten so many discs from Borders and B&N, because a lot of the time they will have the hard to find stuff.

Yes, this happens sometimes. And as my obsessive-compulsive DVD syndrome progresses, these bouts get more common.
|
i also had those feelings with "Lost" (S1-S3) earlier in the weekend. luckily B&N let me steal them from their inventory.

I feel this way about porn dvd's. ;)

Many. Top of the list is Uproar in Heaven (Da nao tian gong) and Prince Nezha's Triumph Against Dragon King (Nezha nao hai), neither of which I've been able to find on DVD. Well, at least not in English - I've seen the former available in China, but unfortunately I don't speak Mandarin.
After that, Animalympics, which recently got a release in Germany, so will be picking that up shortly. A lot of the other DVDs I've been desperate to get my hands on are cartoons from my youth in the 80s, which have been well catered for in the past couple of years. Thundercats has been released, following on from Dungeons & Dragons and Visionaries. Most exciting one thats coming up for me this year is Mysterious Cities of Gold. So yeah, mine are all bound up in nostalgia. -wink- |
