FYE that i went to had at least 20-30 steelbooks not including the ones behind the counter. They had the up front rack of 10 or so and then the other new release rack with at least 20 on a few shelves. Seemed to be more steelbooks than regular cases.

I stopped in to 2 Best Buys yesterday after work.

The first one told me it didn't come with a bonus DVD, but came with a bonus book (!!), and that they were sold out of it.

The second told me they were all out of the bonus disc edition (she said it came packed inside the shrinkwrap)

Ugh...do they even try to limit how many copies people can buy? Or are they all up on eBay already? Some of us actually want to watch the bonus features. Oh well...I didn't buy it at all and hopefully there will be a 2 disc edition down the line.

Decided to drop by the FYE in Durham, N.C., and got attracted into buying a steelbook. They're actually pretty good looking. There were only a few more left. It was $19.99 with a $5 MIR.

Also stopped by Target, their exclusive seems like a rip. It includes a cd, the regular dvd, and some kind of piece of paper that looks like a file...all for $23!

What's with the steelbook love? I get that it's a steel book, but for me the regular keepcase is much better, even with the stupid quotes. It's the theatrical poster and a great image at that.

The inside of the SteelBook case has that same image, so we're still getting it. We just get a much cooler exterior that has obviously been attacked by a monster as well.

I guess I answered my own question..

I missed the Kmart/Sears Exclusive Ringtone.. which I think.. sucks!

Geez, for some reason.. The stores I stopped by it seems I got lucky to obtain the last one in stock...

Contrary to what other members state what they saw on stock at their nearby stores.. the ones here around Los Angeles were mostly the regular version.

What exactly is the ringtone? The monster? Cast screaming? And if it's very good, er, I wonder where I could attain it.....

Just caught this for the first time via Netflix, and I loved it! However, I will await the Blu-ray disc before picking it up to own.

I'd like to know this as well. Is there anything related to the mythology, clues, hidden codes etc, 'cause if the booklet is just production and movie photos, I'll pass.

Got my steelbook yesterday. Really sweet packaging. Probably the coolest steelbook I own. I really hope they double dip on this title, though, because there's a lot more I'd like to see included in the way of bonus features. All of that viral marketing alone could fill a 2nd disc. And I want those goddamn trailers included!

The target se is a pure fluff piece imo (you get a cd you will probably only play like twice). I went with the FYE steelbook. it's very nice. The Best Buy bonus disc was tempting, but paramount will probably release a 2-disc set at some point.

the steelbook is worth it. especially if you plan on upgrading to the HD version when it's released by paramount.

UK 2 disc steelbook

Too bad the HMV 2 disc steelbook is not available in the US. Not sure what all of the differences are, but I see a 50 minute "Case Designate: Cloverfield" extra not listed for the US release.

I might have to get the HMV cloverfield steelbook since I couldn't get the domestic one for lack of a FYE store. Of course by the time you add shipping and a weak dollar into the price conversion, I'd probably do just as well to pay and arm and a leg for one on Ebay. Plus it'll probably have those damn British rating emblems all over it. No need for a backup when you're region free.

(Currently 26 Steelbooks on EBay)

Well now I'm really curious about that extra on the HMV edition.

So what does everyone think of the disk? My biggest grip was they could've left off the deleted scenes and alt endings entirely and put on the damn trailers!

This would've been the perfect movie for fake newscasts or documentaries along the lines of the Blair Witch or the remake DotD Directors Cut disks.

The only good part of one of the deleted scenes was the one where it showed the guy picking up the camera. I tried pausing it to see who it was, but couldn't make out the face. They should've just put that in the original ending anyway, I don't see why they took it out. But other than that one second clip, the alternate endings were utterly pointless.

I thought it was legal to make a personal backup of material you have paid for and isn't considered bootlegging as long as you are not distributing it to others. Fair use and DMCA seem to contradict each other and makes this somewhat confusing.

I was just interested in this UK version and trying to figure out how I could actually watch it if purchased. Another option is to buy a region free player, but I can't justify the expense to watch one movie.
