I don't get how you play along with the movie. Is it one of those deals where it stops and you have to select a particular action, like "if you want Jose to steal the briefcase - press 1," "if you want Jose to return the briefcase - press 2"?

thats exactly what it is. I have a copy of this, and while its amazingly bad it doesn't beat

which is the same kind of choose your own adventure game/movie but with really bad cgi versions of Kiss. I have never got to the true ending, as Kiss always dies in an explosion while flying a spaceship/pod racer inspired craft.

This game is a shooter where your aiming at targets getting ready to kill you. I don't know how this would work on a DVD remote, the reaction time would suck.
